Could this guy be Spencer's replacement? Wimbley?

League sources tell NFL.com Raiders OLB Kamerion Wimbley is "not interested" in taking a pay-cut to remain with the Raiders in 2012.
That stance could make Wimbley a free agent, as he's currently set to earn an eye-popping $11 million. Wimbley was one of the league's top pass rushers in 2011, however, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 4-3 outside linebacker.

Hmm...6'4" 255 pounds 7 sacks last year

I wonder how Wimbley would do opposite of the best pass rusher in the NFL?

Not for the eye popping money he seems to want.

Interesting name for sure. IIRC, Wimbley has experience in the 34 from his days in Cleveland and maybe his first year with the Raiders; he also had success in that scheme too.

If he gets cut, there's no way he makes $11 million. He makes the FA OLB class a tad stronger. If Jerry wants a guy to get to the QB, Wimbley is one of those guys IMO. It depends on the price though, you're right.

I'm assuming Rob Ryan knows Wimbley from his Cleveland days?

He has 4 years left on a 5 year deal that guaranteed him $29m. i don't see how they can cut that and not eat a humongous cap charge.

Two words: Stanford Routt :laugh2:

Is he worth 9 million in your opinion?

Yeah that would be more in the range. I clearly do not see him getting an avg of 11 mill when Ware is getting that right now.

June 1 cut; push it into next year.

One more sack than Spencer for $11M, instead of $8.8M if they franchise Spencer?

No Thanks... If that is the option, franchise Spencer...

You clearly underestimate the Oakland Raider franchise.

Couple of names....Gibril Wilson (cut one year after signing huge contract), DeAngelo Hall, Nnamdi Asomugha, and now Stanford Routt.

A stat about Wimbley that I found interesting:

5 out of his 7 sacks last year, came when the team was ahead by 1-8 points.

We need more of those players who come up in big game situations. Other than the Commanders game, Spencer just disappears.

One more sack as a 4-3 OLB. There's no way he had as many rush opportunities as Spencer.

Kam won't get $11M in free agency, but he probably won't come cheap either. As is generally the case, it all comes down to the $. But if the choice is franchise Spencer for $8.8M or sign Kam for $9M, I'd take Kam.

The old management passed away last year. What I am saying is that (29-29/5)/2, results in a $11m cap hit for both of the next two year if you cut him after June.

Asogugha was signed to short one year deals becuase he wouldn't sign long term. They are already eating $10m from Routt who had another guaranteed amount dues.

Al Davis left his estate in a mess. Maybe they will cut him. Cannot be fun to be a Raiders fan right now.

there is little doubt he is upgrade over Spencer. He seems little too financially motivated though.
