Could Wade Resign?

Maybe, just maybe, Jerry is counting on that when he matches a presumably higher offer to Garrett than he's currently paying Wade. How could Wade either demand a higher salary or stand for his subordinate banking more than him? He could only resign, thereby saving face. And Jerry gets his man without having to do something that would be seen as unfair or in poor judgment--firing his head coach after just one fairly successful season.

you think he would resign after and almost superbowl season. and its only his first year as Dallas's head coach. i don't have a clue as to why he woul'd resign.

Gibbs on the other hand............

If Wade were to resign... it would be with Jerry's hand on his back and foot on his arse sending him out the door.... except you would not see Jerry ;)

It's just a hypothesis I've been cooking up in my laboratory...do you think Jerry would be unhappy with this outcome?

I actually do not think it's not that far fetched. I was listening to Colin Cowhered today and he actually made a good point. With Wade most likely being here only another year, what kind of quality assistant coaches could we bring in to replace our loses? Who would want to move there families to Dallas knowing it's only for a year under Wade? Meanwhile, Jason is in Atl or Baltimore with resumes pouring in. I'm not saying his point is completely legitimate.....just a different angle that I had not previously thought about.

Is it set in stone he would be here one more year? Did I miss something?

First off, there's no way Phillips will quit his dream job no matter what Jerry ends up paying Garrett. Second, there's no way we or the media ever find out what either Phillips or Garrett get paid. Third, I have no doubt there will be lots of coaches more then willing to work for the Cowboys even if Wade only around for a year. Cowboys are a high profile team and if you do a good job there's better chance with us that these coaches get better job offers. Also, while Phillips probably gets the chance to name his new coaches there is no doubt it will only be with Jerry's consent/approval.

Captain O'Hagan: I swear to God I'm going to pistol whip the next guy who says, " Shenanigans."
Mac: Hey Farva what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy **** on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?
Farva: You mean Shenanigans?

Why on earth would he do that?

I think a more logical question is could Wade Phillips be fired? Of which, I am sure the answer is no.

Here are some ways Jerra could encourage Wade to resign.

1. Have a coaches meeting. As soon as Wade walks in, Jerra and everybody hushes up.
2. On Wade's parking place, paint the following: Interim HC
3. Take out Wade's photo in the new team brochure
4. Jerra, when speaking to the media, refers to "HC Garrett, um, I mean HC Phillips."
5. Order Wade to sit on a sideline chair while Garrett barks out orders and sends in plays
6. On the team photo, photoshop Wade's face out.
7. Have front-office personnel ask Wade: You must be proud of your son's 13-3 record, Bum!
8. Paste a sign on Wade's back: Kick me I'm on my way out if Jerra can figure a way to do it.
9. Ask Al Davis, as a favor, to interview Wade. (It could happen!)
10. Send Wade out to the golf course and then have Jason and Jerra go out to "talk" to him.
