Could we even get a quality head coach to work for Jerry?

Maybe Jerry won't get rid of Garrett cause he knows he wouldn't be able to get his first choice. He would get a retread or someone who was passed up somewhere else. I don't think a top notch guy would want to work for Jerry unless it was the last job available.

Anyone would come here.

I’m not one trying to defend JG and if it were up to me he would be gone...
However, if he has no power and he doesn’t even get to hire his staff then how can I blame him when crap breaks down.

To answer the OP....no, I don’t believe a quality HC is interested in being held publicly accountable for the success or failure of a team when the Owner has totally neutered you of power and authority.

The players know the worse JG can do is tell on them to papa bear.

Valid question...

The last time the Cowboys had a real head coach is because Jerry needed something. Jerry loves current staff and the structures so I doubt he makes any changes.

You can blame him for accepting being a puppet. Blame him for not taking charge, not making a difference. If he had any respect he would leave under theses circumstances.

We're just now figuring this out? The Dave Campo's, Chan Gailey's, Jason Garretts, isn't a big enough clue?

And don't even bring up Parcells. Jerry ruined that when he forced Terrell Owens aka 'the player' on him.

So all of you can keep whining about the coach and stay ignorant.

I've never defended that bum! I'm just trying to make sense of why he's still here.

Nepotism. Plain and simple.

He's a "member of the family", and cutting him lose means Jerry Jones admitting clear failure. And not just for this year, but failure back to 2007 when he first hired Garrett before Wade Phillips with every intention of having him be the head coach one day.

Admitting a decade of failure is tough to do, especially when you'll then have a line of former coaches and players vindicated and speaking out on that failure for quite some time.

It's obvious that it's something Jones wants to avoid at all costs, until reality drags him there kicking and screaming. He thinks he can still "get away with it" this year. "Coach of the year", "Zeke suspension", blah, blah, blah.

If someone will buy it, Jones will sell it. The choice is up to you.

Young team across the board? Arguably the top RB in football at 22? Whole new secondary? The NFL leader in sacks? The Oline? The OROY?

Hell no I don't want that job!

To say nothing of a huge guaranteed contract whether you succeed, fail, or get fired?

Yeah, nobody would take that...

And there you have it. Red Ball must know that the NFL realizes that he is nothing but a figurehead and yet he still stays there. No pride or self respect at all.
The paycheck is all that matters

No established coach will work for Jerry. BP needed the money and he had his lawyers work on a contract that pretty much had Jerry in a box. And you KNOW Jerry will never let that happen again.

Call me a complete homer but, yes, I do think the Cowboys could attract a top-level HC. Critical pieces are in place: a young QB, great OL, a defense trending up and a great owner. The real issue is an inept and meddlesome GM.
