Could we see Kellen borrow and deploy Diggs (as was done with Deion back-when)?

Now that the trade deadline is past, and given the fact that the only name that appeared to be consistently mentioned in the waning hours was Cooks... that would hint that that's the kind of threat they'd like to add to the arsenal if they could have settled on the right price.

Plausibly, we have that on the roster, but he plays defense.

And we have the kind of coaching staff that doesn't seem to mind this season breaking out some intriguing wrinkles.

Not making a prediction, but just saying, I can easily imagine this experiment being implemented for a couple of snaps in a couple of games to see if it merits consideration for future high-leverage situations.

Interesting thought. He did play WR at Alabama before switching to corner.

I doubt it though.

.0001% chance. Gallup should only get healthier/stronger and trust his knee more and Washington should be back eventually. This offense can move the ball extremely effectively without WR’s putting up huge #’s, don’t know why everyone is so obsessed with WR’s

Because Gallup and Lamb are good but not great. The Cowboys need a number 1, and Lamb hasn't shown that he is it.

I could see him lining up at WR a few times throughout the rest of the year. If he can play WR anywhere near his brother then yeah.

along the same thought process of what players did in college, maybe its Pollard that can line up at wideout more often, especially in the (very effective) 21 and 31 groupings with all those TEs.

Gallup should only get healthier/stronger

Conventional wisdom relative to his injury and recovery is he won't be back to 100% though until next season. To the point here, Gallup's not likely to be a deep threat this season.

Washington should be back eventually

Not a deep threat.

This offense can move the ball extremely effectively without WR’s putting up huge #’s, don’t know why everyone is so obsessed with WR’s

No disagreement that we can move the ball effectively, but that sidesteps the premise embedded in the OP... that this is an area they'd like to upgrade (hence interest in a player known as a deep threat)... and... that it is plausible to think they could experiment for a few snaps with an asset already on the roster.

So he has twice the likelihood of getting injured?

We're just going to have very fundamental disagreement if you consider a few plays on offense somehow significantly adds to the risk of injury. There's always risk. Running down the field on fly patterns (not talking crossing patterns or slants) is pretty much what the guy does for a lot of every game anyhow, just on D.

Right?

How about we get our lightning fast kick returner out there first?

I hear that, and it's not really an either/or thing. I bet they'll look at that as well. That said Turpin high-pointing a deep ball and Diggs high-pointing a deep ball seemingly would be two different things. The former isn't nearly as likely to win a contested catch, but if you can scheme him open enough so he can run under a ball without much traffic ... a la Tyreek Hill... sounds great.

maybe its Pollard that can line up at wideout more often

Honestly, as much as we saw them work on this in camp, I'm pretty surprised we haven't seen that with some routine. No, really surprised.

So yeah... I think between Pollard, Turpin, and Diggs, we have some current assets who might be incorporated in the way that we may have seen Cooks used.

Would be absolutely stupid to do so for many reasons:

1) already down one CB from injury, why risk losing your top CB to play a position he hasn't played in YEARS.
2) IF he was a good WR, he would have stayed one at Bama.
3) We have other guys getting paid to play WR, like the USFL MVP. Let them play WR.
4) Diggs needs to spend more time learning to support the run instead of learning the route tree.

Why did Alabama coaching staff switch Diggs to DB?

He could catch, but getting off the line and route variety was subpar. Saban is a genius, so was Ernie Zampese from Air Coryell coaching tree whom used Deion as a great decoy but Troy was great…He took shots to back off defenses in big games!!

I don’t think Kellen Moore is savvy yet to deploy Diggs appropriately. Turpin just popped against Bears. Hopefully with QB1 can open up the offense after bye with ALL receivers back.

And that matters if you're talking about the player's full-time job.

This is moonlighting.

Really? Because I don't know how much a mystery it is how to deploy him appropriately that it requires savvy, but even it does require savvy, that's seemed to me to be what got Kellen the job in the first place... they thought he had some savvy, some instinct, some creativity for that job.

This seems to be addressing a very different question.

Unless I missed it, no one asked if Diggs should be transitioned into a full-time WR.
