If they were looking at Cooks the my were looking to add a player to take the top off a defense with speed. Why not just have Turpin run long routes? It would seem to me that Turpin is a lot less expensive version of Cooks. Now that the trade deadline is past, and given the fact that the only name that appeared to be consistently mentioned in the waning hours was Cooks... that would hint that that's the kind of threat they'd like to add to the arsenal if they could have settled on the right price.
Plausibly, we have that on the roster, but he plays defense.
And we have the kind of coaching staff that doesn't seem to mind this season breaking out some intriguing wrinkles.
Not making a prediction, but just saying, I can easily imagine this experiment being implemented for a couple of snaps in a couple of games to see if it merits consideration for future high-leverage situations.

I think Parson would make a great TE and Zack and Tyler could shore up the middle to help out the D.
We can't even get Turpin the ball in space.
That end around sweep vs CHI suggests otherwise.
Look, if you want Turpin to become Tyreek Hill, no, I don't think many of us see that happening. But if you want Turpin to get 2-3 offensive touches and maybe 5-7 snaps a game, that seems plausible. It's a legit concern though to err on the side of under-use because of his body type and his exceptional special teams value. Those are major considerations, obviously.
Great post!!!Why did Alabama coaching staff switch Diggs to DB?
He could catch, but getting off the line and route variety was subpar. Saban is a genius, so was Ernie Zampese from Air Coryell coaching tree whom used Deion as a great decoy but Troy was great…He took shots to back off defenses in big games!!
I don’t think Kellen Moore is savvy yet to deploy Diggs appropriately. Turpin just popped against Bears. Hopefully with QB1 can open up the offense after bye with ALL receivers back.
The issue is putting the guy in when he's going to be involved in the play and hardly any other time. I feel like it's end around or fake end around and nothing else. Can we use him any other way? Seems like a good coordinator gets that done.
9 games to go. 6-2 so far. Not feeling like the coordinator has to answer to me right now... he went 4-1 with the back-up QB. Let's see if he expands on Turpin's usage. Or if he doesn't, I don't really care as long as we're producing and winning.
The OP is merely to suggest that there are other options on the current roster, including a highly-accomplished CB with WR skills, and Turpin, and Pollard, who might be given a look to do what Cooks might have done.
Turpin says "HELLO!!!"Now that the trade deadline is past, and given the fact that the only name that appeared to be consistently mentioned in the waning hours was Cooks... that would hint that that's the kind of threat they'd like to add to the arsenal if they could have settled on the right price.
Sheesh! Everyone wants a run first offense, then starts screaming we need another WR when we transition to a 12 personnel run first offense. Noah Brown is on pace for 56 receptions and 800 plus yards as the number 3. Dak and Gallup are starting to look like they’re getting their timing down. Why don’t we just have the actual WRs play WR?Now that the trade deadline is past, and given the fact that the only name that appeared to be consistently mentioned in the waning hours was Cooks... that would hint that that's the kind of threat they'd like to add to the arsenal if they could have settled on the right price.
