Can Martin? Yes.

will he? No

Listen Martin is one of the all time best.

but it’s already been shown he throws a hissy fit when asked to move. He isn’t a team player in that regard.

and our front office builds a culture of entitlement.

So they won’t move him.

Martin is a full on Dallas Cowboy. He does what is best for Martin. Not necessarily what is best for the team. Who can blame him?

Thought about it too, but there are questions marks at multiple positions. Having Martin next to Steele and the starting center may help both those guys. I would leave him where he is for now.

He’s said he doesn’t want to move.

Yeah, he doesn't want to. People forget this. I don't think he has the movement skills at this point. Even if he did, he would need an offseason to lean up and practice the technique.

On his last contract he said if you plan on moving me to tackle ..... Pay me like a tackle ..... They paid him like a guard ..... So he want to stay at guard

If he refuses to do what is best for the team, I trade him immediately and proceed with the flush of this season. Given OL needs around the league could probably get a premium return. But that's just me. I don't let players dictate what is best for the team.

Of course he can but he doesn't want to and that doesn't help us unless we also add an OG.
Martin/Tyler Smith/Biadasz/McGovern/Steele is not a good OL. It's an All Pro OG playing LT for the first time. A Rookie. A not very good Center. A guy who even though he is better at RG than LG was poor last year when he played and a RT who was horrible two years ago but ok last year who we hope will improve to good this year, but we still don't know for sure. Add to this a starting TE who was a poor blocker last year and having only one healthy WR who is good enough to play on other teams for the first month or more. If we want to win a division and make some noise in the playoffs, that isn't good enough IMO.

So we have one good OL who also happens to be an all time great and your solution is trade him?
It's not like we have a stud or even average OG waiting to step in behind Martin to backfill at Guard. We'd be moving him to play McGovern who lost his job to Conner Williams every year

You just lost your LT. Your season is in serious jeopardy. I specifically said "if he refuses to do what is best for the team" then I trade him.

I will go a step further though. If you have no confidence that you can salvage the OL this year, you should try to trade him anyway. As I said, flush the season & try to get return on investment to reload for future years. No sense in letting a good players talent be wasted.

You know, sorta like some of us proposed trading Tyron a few years back. Get some return while other teams are willing to take a chance.

Kind of got the idea after reading xwalker's and a few others posts.

Would it be possible to move Martin to LT and let someone like Alacron or McGovern play RG?

He's the beat OL on the team and you don't have to move Tyler around in his rookie vear.

Before you throw tomatoes, I'm only asking as a last resort possibility.

Sound like the epitome of sheer panic reaction.
We're gonna ask someone that is gonna be aging 32 year old, to go from phone booth inside RG,.. to out on an island LT ?

i tend to believe that calf injury that he suffered while being out at RT, that eventually ended his 2020 season, was probably a result of excess strain on his body
and wheels that he would've not had suffered being inside at OG.

And and i would not be surprised if it probably the leading reason why he supposedly has no desire to have to forced to play outside at OT again.

Not to long ago, Zach blew a tire playing RT trying to hang with DEs. Stephen has plenty cap space and trade chips to get something done without moving Mr. Martin.

I actually think it's a great idea, just don't think there is any chance we will do it.
Zach was an All American LT at ND, and 4 year starter there, though he's played inside his entire NFL career.
I just think the guy is so good he could do it.
Offer to renegotiate his deal if he's open to it, and pay him a little more (since LTs make more than Guards).
McG plays very well at RG, and we could keep Tyler Smith at LG.
Martin and Tyler would open some gaping holes in the run game on that left side.
I think with Tyron down for awhile, this is the best option.
But I think there is a 0% chance of it happening.

They told him to play RT and he did and did it well.
Your garbage is just that.

These agents need to start protecting their clients.

Im not letting my Offensive Line client sign a contract without literature that states they get a significant bonus for being asked to move positions and complying. The client is doing extra so should be compensated extra. That doesnt even take into account injury risks from such a move(see Zach Martins injury last time he moved positions).

Dont give me your "its about team" propaganda...see the LIV golf tour...guys want money not colorful jackets and silver cups as trophies.

I'd move Zach Martin to left tackle, and go with Smith, Biadasz, McGovern, Steele..

Martin can play at LT and be great at it

problem is you leave a HUGE hole at guard.....let Tyler Smith play LT and learn

Pretty sure they tried this and baby took a giant hissy fit.
Another thing you might consider is Martin is getting older so would you want to stick him out there at left tackle. I suppose you let the coaches decide.
