Hey guys couple of tidbits, from the dfw sports beat and nfl network 1977 dallas cowboys;
on sports beat, i had asked an email question and brady chose it, best question i asked (two of mine got chosen) demarcus ware said that anthony spender should really show things this year, along with someone i had no ideal was making such a move, but Ware said lookout for bobby carpenter, he is flying out there, making plays all over the field, (again one of tom landrys 3 things he told parcells with one of them being, give a guy till his 3rd camp).
on 1977 dallas cowboys it was real funny to hear, thomas henderson wore glasses one day on film session, (landry didnt get along with him) anyway (henderson was a real good linebacker, (landry had him playing strongside, he beat out randy white so landry moved white to DT his best position, henderson was a true weakside linebacker). Anyway Henderson picked a fight with randy white one day, white picked him up by one arm, stuffed him in his locker, then got on top of henderson, Henderson said if you let me up im going to kill you, Drew Pearson was talking and said randy could have hurt henderson bad, henderson said it wasnt a fair bleep bleep fight, with the strongest player in the nfl being randy white and himself. Pearson laughed and said, dumb henderson picked the fight with the wrong dude.
I found out also, Landry had to change his philosphy on running designs and let Tony Dorsett run to daylinght. Another thing i found out interesting, Landry didnt like prima donnas, and cut dorsett down to size a few times. Also, I didnt know this all of the dallas cowboy players respected drew pearson, he was the skinnest player at 175, and he would throw up all the time on the sidelines, even on landry now and then on sidelines, so i guess landry would move back when pearson got close to him on sideline. Again, drews nickname was mr clutch.
landry liked charley waters, and he was the best strong safety we had in a long time besides darren woodson, waters was a former QB out of college and moved to safety, he even layed cornerback, and so did Landry in his earlier years.
another tidbit i heard on the dfw sports beat, at least i think i did, its early in the mornign and still alittle sleepy. Anyway, another reason why they are moving Henry to safety on nickel coverages etc, besides having pacman is the development of mike jenkins, they are saying that jenkins is the real deal at cornerback, and when he gets it together, boom, a bonafide lock up cornerback. So, by midseason, we should have the best defensive backfield, (henry if you didnt know already will primarly cover TE's like shockey, the giants te boss too and the tes of the Commanders like cooley, most likely winslow te for cleveland too, (remember henry played safety his first year at cleveland and got 10 interceptions that year). But, boy oh boy, Newman, Pacman, Jenkins, (scandrick will be allowed to slowly come on i think) henry and hamlin at safety, Just think of it guys, more interceptions, big plays on defense, lock down coverage on WRs so more coverage sacks too. I think this year, we will have a nasty nasty defense guys.
