Courtney Brown can be a starter?

He has all the tools, I think we all hope he can come in and play and knock our socks off. Let's not expect too much of him, that way if he gives us just a tad bit of something, we will explode. :)

No way Brown is anything better than the #5 CB opening day. Maybe by season's end, he'll pass Jaque Reeves, but I think that's unlikely.

Everytime one of these UDFA's gets way overhyped before their first training camp they usually don't make the first cut. Then everyone gets mad at the Cowboys and there are a lot of "What the heck are they thinking !!!!!" posts.

Except Brown was drafted.

And to the O.P.....Brown needs to make the roster first.

I've actually heard better reviews so far for Alan Ball. One of the coaches said to look out for him because he can play. I believe it was Brian Stewart. He also said Reeves and Jones were looking good. From what I understand, the early word on Brown is that he looks the part, has great attributes for the position, but is very raw and lacks experience against high quality opponents and it showed up a little in mini camp. I like the guy but it will be a stuggle for him to make the team. He is a strong candidate for the practice squad and may get stolen at some point during the year.

I don't come close to agreeing that Brown will be a starter this year (or possibly even ever), but in his defense for this post, I do believe he hasn't been able to do much to be reviewed because of school. If I remember correctly, he was one of those players with a late graduation who couldn't participate in all the off-season training.

There is a slight possibility he could start the season as a starter.....on special teams.:D

You're right. I remember the article that cowboys22 is refering to, but it didn't make any comparisons to the two players. It simply said that Ball may be someone to keep an eye on. Brown hasn't been able to show his stuff yet. There's no need to go overboard on way or the other here.

Thats my assestment too, I like courtney brown, listened to his audio about his being drafted and playing. He seemed to be confident. Then, when you add in his size, and shutting down WRs, its impressive. Yet, we have to remember, he didnt really play against elite WRs coming out of college.

Next, because he didnt graduate, he missed out on important training time in offseason workouts. Next, most small college players coming out, arent strong enough their first year. Probably most of you guys dont remember, but cliff harris was a great safety, but he had rough time first year. So did everson walls, it takes times. I see this, he possibly becomes our 4th - 5th cornerback, and in time, if he is really as good as his reported times, and his ability to shut down wrs in small college, then some of that will show up in training camp. What hurt him though was missing that time in mini camps.

I am not overly fond of nate jones, he has been here 4 years and hardly done nothing. Now, I still have some hope of reeves, but he has been here 4 years too. That could be another problem with not just them, but our secondary coaches teaching them. I wouldnt mind Wade Phillips bringing in one or a couple of his former players that were all pro to teach these young guys like Courtney Brown, Jackie Battle, Rodney Hannah a thing or two.

Player that I have in mind is Deion Sanders to help teach them, or maybe even let Jerry Jones bring in Everson Walls, or some top flight all pro cornerback this is retired, and teach them.

Best thing to do, sure dream like your dreaming that Courtney Brown maybe be our next cliff harris, or rodney hannah our next antionio gates, or jackie battle the next great free agent running back, like kansas citys running back priest. Yet, let training camp is the time for them to show it, and wade phillips by what I have heard of him, is a good judge of talent, let him see them, and put them at their best position to prosper and become a star.

How about we wait and see what happens in camp.

Stop making so much sense.

;)

Brown has missed some time due to graduating late but from what I understand he has been around a little for workouts and possibly OTA's and has looked a little raw. I'm not down on him at all or trying to knock him, I just think we need to be more realistic and not expect him to come in and be a starter very soon. He has some stiff competition just to make the team. If he can make the team, then maybe I'll jump on the "we got a steal" bandwagon. Until then I'll just sit back and see what happens and hope he, along with every other draft pick and UFA, becomes a good player.
