Started to put this in the Fan Zone but guess it should go here. I suspect they will come to terms at some point although they may be forced to use the franchise tag.

He is not worth the money he is asking. IMO they would be smart to let him walk.

They are $4M apart? If Cousins was smart he would take the $16M they offered him with a big guarantee.

Gotta say, I like Cousins. I like his attitude about playing under the tender. I like him betting on himself, and I like the way he plays. He's not a great QB, and he's not likely to be one down the road, but he's too good to let walk. And he's a guy I think is going to get better with playing time, too. I'd be pretty pleased with him overall if he were a Cowboy and we didn't have a much better player already in Tony Romo.

I'd call him serviceable plus with the possibility of being better down the road. I agree he's unlikely to be a great one. I like the player. I'll take one like him to replace Romo until something better comes along.

Would you want to pay him $20M per yr that he is asking for? I do not think he is worth the $16M the Skins offered him.

Unlike Dez, he is actually fully participation in all off season programs.
So..also unlike Dez...his performance will not suffer.

Not saying he won't regress...hoping he will (almost expecting it) ...just saying not due to lack of reps or conditioning.
Btw, that team had some nice receiving weapons.

A lot depends on what you have at QB. You generally are going to overpay for a QB outside of the draft and for that you need a high pick. Or you have to overpay to get up the board. That position costs you money.

He isn't a 20m QB but the Skins are over a barrel after RGIII left

Cousins is a 10-12m year QB but he has leverage and will use it......he gets 20m this and if he busts he still signs a deal with someone to be a backup for 7m per......if he succeeds he gets his 20m a year deal....

he reminds me of Flacco, not overwhelming but steady. Really needs talented receivers or he will look average.

Much like Joe Flacco, Cousins picked the perfect time to have his 'career year', especially in a league that has far more quarterback need than actual quarterbacks.

Other criticisms aside, I think Jay Gruden has done an outstanding job with the quarterbacks in Washington, including being smart enough to quickly realize that RG III wasn't one.

Given the money they're again throwing around, I fully expect Washington to get a long term deal done with Cousins, even though I think they have a much better backup option than the Cowboys do as well.
