Anyone who has read me in the last year or who has followed me on Twitter (@Marcus_Mosher) knows my opinion of DeVonte Holloman. I’ve loved his game since the pre-draft process at South Carolina. I liked what he showed me in pre-season and the types of plays he was involved in . And now, I can say that I really love what he has shown in the NFL, despite limited action. But his most impressive performance to me came in the final week of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles when he started at middle linebacker, but we will get to that in a bit.

But what should we really expect from DeVonte Holloman in 2014? Most experts and pundits expect Holloman to battle for the strong-side linebacker (SLB) job with Kyle Wilber and for him to be Sean Lee’s primary backup. But I have even higher expectations. Not only do I expect Holloman to win the SLB job with ease, I also think he will be the second best linebacker on the team by next season’s end. Sounds like a pretty bold prediction, right? I believe he is that talented and I will show you why.

But before we get into the game film, lets take a look at DeVonte Holloman’s measurables as compared to the other Cowboys linebackers:

Damn am I the only one who looks at that measurable's chart and is blown away by those Sean Lee stats. I mean I knew he was a smart player and I thought that was far and away his strongest asset but Ill be damned if he not an amazing physical specimen also.

This is how our fan base starts to prematurely fall in love with some players.

The position is wide open. It's Holloman's for the taking. He has only shown flashes of talent so far. All he must do is step up, consistently produce and be The man.

and now it is up to Marinelli to try and get the most out of the physical tools that Holloman has. He is also yet another player who was sidelined with injuries this past season. Hate to harp on it but training staff needs to figure out a better way of getting these guys in shape and hopefully on the field as opposed to the sidelines.

Holloman is a decent looking prospect, and I think he's got a head for football, too, if he can stay healthy.
What I wonder is why Justin Durant gets such short shrift here. He's got decent measurables, and played really well in relief at MLB last year. He's the kind of bricklayer you really need on a roster to field a competitive team, and everybody seems keen on letting him walk. I'd take him on my team over Sims any day of the week.

With the draft coming up it's not a bad idea to see Holloman's name. That was good use of the 185th pick.
They got Dwayne Harris that late too.
Odds are really low at finding anything much in the 6th and 7th rounds, though there is the occassional gem.

Future star? This is the trap Cowboy fans fall into too often. Jerry Jones's promotion is a part of the problem but this fan base loves to anoint players. Jeff Heath is the next Bill Bates!

Holloman has a good chance to be a serious contributor to a defense in desperate need of help. Let's hold off on the "star" talk a little while longer,

I don't get it either. The guy can play two positions and is relatively cheap. I see no reason to cut ties with him. He isn't a progress stopper, he is depth.

Great....his combine measurables are better than the other crappy LB's we have on our roster not named Carter and Lee. Surely he deserves to be called a future star because of that.

He's intriguing because of his SS background and maybe he can be a servicable starter 1 day, but star? Ill be happy if he manages to stay on the roster for more than 3 years and contribute, even if its just on special teams player.

To be fair, you posted some screen shots of 1 play from preseason and 1 play from the regular season. Not really compelling reasons why he will be a star.

I've got over 20 screen shots from two weeks. How many do you need to see?
