Coverage Observation

No it’s not understandable it’s insanity!

You can’t do the same thing over and over again if you have mediocre zone defenders. You have to mix it up. Zone blitz, blitz using stunts etc. Don’t just sit back in your lame soft zone, you know a decent QB will pick apart.
It's interesting fans understand this but the coaching doesn't seem to get it.

Because this is the NFL. Everyone has athletes.
Egads!
Are you new to the English language?
Do you know there is a nuance to me statement?
Most caught me drift, wayward lad. None mistook it until you.

In watching some games this weekend, and in particular the Chargers-EGals, last night I couldn't help but notice mostly all of their coverages are pretty damn tight while ours are disgustingly loose. Opposing receivers are so wide open it makes me want to puke. College DB's have tighter coverage. We line up 10 yds+ off the line with 5yds to go. Is this scheme or execution...or both. All I know is it sucks and until we can tighten things up, we're going to continue to get torched like we have been. I just don't understand why the hell we continue to do what doesn't work. Wrong personnel? Wrong scheme? Wrong coaching? Frustrating as all get out watching this. Talk me off the ledge or push me off...
Chargers/Eagles both have consistently disruptive DLines. Can't play tight coverage if you are not getting to the QB, he will eat you alive.

Um, not true, not in this context.

It's about having the skillset to man up, which includes lateral agility/burst/instincts. Very few players have this.

It's silly to think all players are equal. Especially when the facts scream otherwise.

I’ve noticed the same thing. It’s like we’re playing a prevent defense every play. Yet other teams DBs seem to have every receiver locked down pretty tight. I remember how much better our coverage was with pretty much the same players when Al Harris was the DB coach. Eberflus has been exposed as a fraud.
That's what I call it they might call it a Cover 3 that what I see is 75% of the game they're playing prevent defense i've never seen it in my life to play that scared in a game nowadays that even a decent offense will tear that apart they'll take what you give them that is what offenses look over there and go well damn there's holes all over we just throw them all short and under all day until they come up and stop it and guess what they don't and then you have some missed tackles in those eight to 10 yard gains turn into chunk plays That's what's happening that's what happened in the Lions game The game would have been at least a little tighter had they made those tackles but they were wide open all game It was all underneath and they didn't care they just kept doing it And the other symptom you get from that long drives that eat the time of possession up before they score 7 on you And then the offense has way less possessions to try to come back and win games Then you add in the short fields from the special teams and the turnovers yeah this is just was shocking that we were only down three points with 10 minutes left ,

and then you still have Matt saying let's prevent this from happening and that prevented nothing but a win!!!!

I feel our coverage cost us the Carolina game. Way too soft late in the game. Actually our coverage probably cost us most our games now that I think about it…

What's worse is the Cowboys have corners that excel in press man. In fact Shavon Revel's draft scouting report mentions how tough he is in pure man coverage.

So Eberflus plays him in zone. He has to be the most stubborn and/or clueless DC we have ever had.

It is worse when the other team has fast guys who are good at run after catch.
It makes it easy for them to catch ball and then use speed to get a good rac.
On some of those plays it’s not even a question of a tackle will be broke but how badly

Did anyone make a funny gif of Daron bLand last week break dancing

I would also say that part of the coverage issue lays at the feet of the LB’s in zone responsibility. Far too often Murray’s depth is wrong, or he’s taking a step and reacting in the opposite direction. It’s a real problem and in this defense the MLB is key to zone coverage.

Every team plays more zone than man, even the man-heavy teams.

The Cowboys lack top-tier talent in the secondary. No argument there. But the primary issue is communication. The corners and safeties don’t know where to transition coverage, and the linebackers have the worst coverage instincts I’ve ever seen. Their drops are either too shallow or hopelessly out of position.

The problem isn’t limited to Eberflus. It was the same with Nolan and that dude who came over from Seattle. Unless the DC completely dumbs down the scheme and lets the defenders chase one guy all over the field, they struggle.

That’s unwillingness to learn. That’s culture.
