If he was trying to unload it before carrying it in then they will partially mitigate the incident. Still depends on who and if someone gets a bug up their butt and who makes phone calls. He does play for the Giants. Maybe the DA has season tickets......or wants them.

NYC is about as tough on gun possession as DC was. And mandatory gives VERY little wiggle room. Having lived in Upper NY for 6 years, if you think Plexxiglass is going to get a break you are dreaming. Remember what happened to the Governor of NY just 6 months ago.

Oh good, I'm not alone.

It is a cluster.

We must have some history with Pierce that I'm not aware of.

New title: "A player that we really really hate was with Burress when he capped himself."

I think he'll get a slap on the wrist for this.....from the law.

I think Goodell may be a little harsher. I think he'll be suspended for a couple of games. If the Giants don't get to him first.

There are no mitigating circumstances. The law says possession of a firearm- it says nothing about whether its loaded or not. Without a NY carry permit, or a federal one, having a handgun in your possession in NYC is 3 years mandatory prison time. And any judge would have a hard time justifying leniency to a famous person (even a Giant). I could just barely see having the prison time suspended but its going to be a hard sell. Plexxi is not exactly popular in NY.

Oh don't get me wrong I hope the guy rots in jail but you know how these things work. If it was me or you of course we would be there but a high profile athlete not a chance.

Why would you want something like that to happen to him? If he was trying to shoot someone then yeah sure let him hang but if he just had an accident with his firearm I don't see what the big dealis.

Then again you have to be pretty damn stupid to shoot yourself like that.

If you have enough foresight to try and unload the gun (obviously unsuccessfully), you should also have enough foresight to leave the gun home. If your security is that big of an issue, hire a bodyguard or stay the **** home.

I dont believe that story.... especially prior to going into a club.

Ask Puff Daddy. :laugh2:

It was reported on ESPN radio this morning that Pierce in also in trouble with the law because he tried to hide the gun that Plexxi shot himself with. His attorney was supposedly trying real hard to get him off with out charges. They also mentioned that Plexxi did not have a permit to legally carry the handgun in the state of New York.

I'm a federal agent and I have but one question. What good is an unloaded weapon????? An unloaded weapon is only good for one thing - getting you killed. Either you carry it loaded or don't carry it at all.

By the way, I don't profess to know the first thing about gun laws in N.Y., but I thought handguns were illegal period in the city. I didn't think carry permits were available there. I think the same is true in Washington. Am I wrong? Anyone know?

You are correct star4ever. That's why Plax is being charged with a felony tomorrow. (see thread on this page: source: NY Daily News)

Plaxico Burress is expected to be charged with criminal possession of a weapon after shooting himself in the thigh Friday night. The felony chage results in a mandatory 3.5 year prison sentence.

"He went for his gun and fumbled it. And now it will cost him," a police source told the NY Daily News. Details continue to emerge, such as Antonio Pierce berating Plaxico for bringing the gun to a club. Pierce also stashed the gun for Burress and didn't call 911 at Plaxico's request, so he could face charges as well. Cops only learned about the incident after the Giants quietly reached out to them to report it.

I remember that assumption regarding Vick. Your assumption is useful generally, but not always. This seems similar IMO to the Vick case -- there doesn't seem much wiggle room here on the surface. We'll see as the facts come out.

Well, okay, but the guy's point was that Burress shouldn't take a gun into a NYC club. As a federal agent, do you disagree with that?

On edit: Okay, I reread your post and I think I missed your point. My bad...

Yea, my only point in that post was questioning why he was unloading the weapon. Of course he should't take it into the club. Hell, he shouldn't even own it since it's illegal in N.Y. My point is that carrying an unloaded weapon is just as stupid. You'd better not attempt to back down some of the people out there with an unloaded weapon. Like I've always been trained, if you pull your weapon, you sure as hell better be ready to use it.

Yes, my point is he should leave his gun at home - he obvously is cognizant of the fact there are issues with carrying a loaded run around. If he gets that much heat in public that he feels the need to carry a gun, he should just use some of those millions he is paid to hire a security guard to watch his back or just stay home.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they say on the pregame shows this morning that Pierce could be in trouble with the league because not only was he there but he tried to actually hide the weapon afterwards for Burress to try and keep him out of trouble?

I am certain I heard them say that this morning.
