I did think this would be a tough game and it was; but a win is a win! Even though ugly like Hostile mentioned, but this game was a slobber knocker type of game that the Cowboys drew first blood and punched back on the eagles.
We did have some breaks in this game go for us and against us. I am sure you all realize we probably got lucky on 2 crucial 4th down plays ran by eagles, with the refs not overturning the ruling.
The Cowboys, Wade and staff up in the booth watching replay should mark that down for future reference. That the refs do not overtune the spotting of the football. So, mark that down coaching staff.
I mentioned way back there when romo was struggling in the denver game to give him some time to grow, since that game was his 42nd game or so. Some of you told me that had no bearing on the case. I understand all players are different in growing up as players, but if you looked at most of the great QBs, they came into their own from their 50th to 61st game.
Romo is right at about his 50th game now playing as a starter.
Even Jason Garrett is growing as a offensive coordinator. In the last series, Jason didnt get cute, he had the ball go to the best 2 players on the team, Barber and Jason Witten to run out the clock.
The offensive line opened up holes when they had to and provided protection for key pass plays when needed. Granted, the penalities snuck up again on us in the game. That can be corrected!
Newman must play smarter though, and not do dumb penalities like he did last night when he kicked the football after dropping the sure interception.
Again, I mentioned this a few weeks ago, we got called for 12 men on the field on defense. Campo was seen on the sidelines furious and screaming at some player. That must be corrected, that can again come back and bite you in the you know what and cause you to lose a ball game.
Very huge for this team to keep spreading the ball around, while getting Roy Williams and Ogletree involved even more in the game. The cowboys need to keep building plays off of those plays. The score by choice in the wildcat formation was a thing of beauty I think most of you will agree with.
Another thing I have noticed in this game, and was mentioned by Jenkins in one play, was the play calling of Ken Hamlin telling Jenkins to stay back. Sure enough that turned into a key interception. One of the things I willl mention about Hamlin is this. I keep noticing on several plays that Hamlin was standing back there while his teammates came up to make the tackle. Could it possibly be that Campo and Wade are telling Hamlin to stay back as the last defense and not let anyone get past him on deep coverage on WR's, Te's ?
We still need Spencer to step it up in pass rushing though. I have heard that spencer has basically one pass rush move, and most NFL offensive linemen know what that is now. So, in some way or another, Spencer needs to get some more pass rush moves.
As far as officiating, we got robbed on some plays, seemed like at times, the refs would throw a flag to keep the eagles in the game, while throwing a flag on the cowboys. Reports were that officiating crew is the most refs team that throws flags. Maybe the NFL needs to take notice of that and hold those refs more accountable.
What can you say about sensabaugh, he keeps making plays like Brooking does. Yes, this was a team win and they are starting to believe in each other. Just dont get cocky Dallas Cowboys players, you have to keep working, improving and challenging your teammates.
I am pretty sure on Beuhlers kickoffs they or Joe D told him to get his kicks higher so coverage could get down field on coveage against elite Jackson. Same thing went for McBrair, I am sure he was told to not outkick coverage too much for a big return. Our special teams are still doing their job.
Some way or fashion we need to keep working Butler in the game like we do with ogletree now, butler is just making big plays when he is in there.
All in all a great game and a confidence builder for this team.
