Ive been going to New York Met games for 36 years. I went last night to what was almost definitely my last ever game there. While there I was thinking about my greatest Shea memories and naturally was, at first, thinking of baseball. But football may have it beat. In 1975 AND 1978 the Boys finished the regular season at Shea Stadium. Back then the fans were "allowed" to storm the field after the game. It was a tradition to tear down the goal posts. I went on the field both times. While most fans went to the Jets side or to the goal posts there were 100 or so who made a bee line over to the boys. The biggest stars were inside by then but I got to get real close to several players, close enough to slap someone's shoulder pads.

I remember Dennis Thurman and Rolland Woosley for some reason. In 78 I got pretty close to C Waters. They went to the SB against Pittsburgh both those years. Everytime I see old footage of those classic SB's now I think, just a few weeks before that I was a kid among those giants. The best thing though was many, many years later (mid 90's?) I finally got hold of the NFL Films annual team highlights for the 1978 Boys, which I had never seen. And wouldnt you know it I was on it. Granted its just my face in a sea of 40 faces but there we were while poor Charlie Waters was running for his life.

Great memories

So long Shea:toast:

p.s. the bad part of this was that Landry rested Staubach in both games. Im not positive but I think they were the only two games he missed between his 72 injury and 79 retirement. He wasnt even on the sidelines.

I have yet to go to Shea, but I hope to make a game this year if I can hold my breath long enough. At least till the 6th inning.

I believe the Rangers will make a trip to Shea June 14th, 15th, and 16th. You can bet I will make at least one of those games!

That is beyond cool.

Roger may have rested, but Tony saw some action that day.
