Now that Dallas season is once again over early, it's time to see what the Dallas Cowboys need. (NO COACHING COMMENTS HERE, PLEASE, JUST PLAYERS)

Whether Dallas upgrades via FA or the draft, here is MO on what the Cowboys team needs are.

1) Left Tackle: Flozell Adams has seen his best days. The Cowboys need to start grooming another bookend to go with Colombo.

(I suggested to move Colombo to LT and Adams RT, just a suggestion, some may like it some may not.)

2) Safety: AGAIN!! Yep! The Cowboys are going to have to make a decision on Roy Williams. Roy is making big money, for a part time player. Cutting or trading him saves more than 4 million. Dallas will have to decide not only on Roy Williams but what they do with Henry. Will the Cowboys move Henry to FS(Full-time) and Hamlin to SS? The bottlom line here, the Cowboys need some depth at the S position and need to upgrade over Keith Davis and Patrick Watkins.

3) Linebacker: Another year, another need for a linebackers. The Cowboys will have to make a decision on Burnett, who is a FA. Ellis? Zach Thomas? These guys may be gone. Carpenter? He may be gone as well. If that happens, Cowboys will need to address the position because it leaves Dallas very thin here with Ware, Spencer, James, Rodgers and Carlos Polk(If the above happens).

4) D-Line: DT, Dallas may need to add some depth behind Ratliff if Dallas decides to let Tank Johnson go. The Cowboys have nobody after Tank Johnson so this needs to be high on the wish list.

Both DE spots. Do the Cowboys resign Canty? What do they do with Marcus Spears? After these guys the Cowboys have Bowen and Hatcher. The Cowboys need to upgrade here.

5) Punter: I know that we have Matt McBriar but a punter with a foot injury can't be good. The Raiders may lose Shane Lechler. Cowboys should sign him if he becomes available. He'd help out our special teams unit big time.

So there you have it. These are just a few of my opinions were I think the Cowboys need to either upgrade or add depth to. Let me know what you guys think.
I watched the Raiders/Bucs game and the Eagles should send what ever bonus money to this guy. He was pinning the Bucs in their own 10 yard line several times with amazing punts. Even the announcers were amazed at how well he was doing. His hang time was well over 5 secs.

Whenever your run defense has the problems the Cowboys' had this year, the first thing you have to look at is the defensive line.

Marcus Spears just isn't good enough.

Chris Canty really seemed to regress.

I'm undecided as to whether Ratliff should be moved to end...but he obviously has to be one of the guys up front.

I would be looking for two other nose tackle type prospects...regardless of whether a player like that is lining up at NT or DE, it can only help the run defense.

This team gets plenty of pressure from Ware, Spencer/Ellis, Bradie James, and Ratliff...at least when Wade's calling the plays.

Pick6TerenceNewman,

That is a good list you have there. Let's clear out some room.

Here's my two cents:

These guys need a Texas sized steel toed boot in order to focus on finding the replacements. It's past time to churn the bottom. Special teams needs it.

Jerry, here you go.

Tank Johnson
Pacman Jones
Bobby Carpenter
Greg Ellis (Spencer was drafted for a reason. Play him all the time.)
Pat Watkins
Justin Rodgers
Courtney Brown (Could be backup FS and get one more camp)
Pat McQuistan (Couldn't beat out Proctor)
Joe Berger (couldn't beat out Proctor)
Doug Free (Should have trade value; trade him)
Cory Proctor
Tony Curtis (Got our punter killed and cost us dearly; good bye)

Seriously, who deserves to stay? These 11 dudes need to go. Brown gets one more look, imo. Doug Free couldn't spell Adams when he had one arm and no hands. He has trade value.

I don't care about our first round pick. I will take Roy E. Williams any day for # 18. It is the third rounder I will miss on draft day. However, we have the Lions third, the first pick in the round.

Teams are going to ask about Tashard Choice, but I think you keep him. Both running backs went down this year.

I don't think Dallas will give Chris Canty big money. He's probably gone. He played very well after the bye. Jason Hatcher could get promoted, or Canty could do a one year deal with Dallas.

Anthony Henry has one more year left. If his cap is too high, he's probably gone. Jenkins and Scandrick fight it out. If he comes back, he is a sub-package guy. I don't think you can pay him to be a sub-package guy. He's probably gone.

Kevin Burnett is going to get major attention by various teams. Dallas needs him, bad. I have no idea what they will do. He could sign a one year deal, but it will be tough to do that, because other teams are going to want him. If he leaves, Dallas is in really bad shape at inside linebacker, and Burnett played very well for us in the sub-packages. He was better than solid this year. You just can't replace a guy that knows the defense and has his experience without feeling it. This is going to be the most interesting thing to watch for me. The talent is there to pay him, but can Dallas compete with teams that might over pay him. You must keep the guards off him. A bigger NT would serve him well.

DeMarcus Ware

Lock him up now and throw away the key. He deserves every penny. (1 yr left)

Marcus Spears

This guy plays hard. He has been solid. He has size, and we need it if we lose Canty. I would think about locking him up now if I could afford it. He shouldn't be too expensive. (1 Yr left)

I forgot one big name.

Terrell Owens

Is this guy worth the drama and trouble anymore? Jerry better ask himself this question and think long and hard. He better put his personal feelings aside. I think we all know he isn't going anywhere, but I'm begging to change my mind about him.

Were Romo and Garrett really forcing the ball to him to make him happy in the first Commanders game. They threw at him 17 or 18 times. Romo has enough on his mind. Witten isn't the one talking about the "person calling the plays", "I"m not the guy throwing it", "You will have to ask 'him'", "I'll consult Jerry (about the offense) if he asks me". Do we really need Owens going off on Ray Sherman when Romo has a bad day?

I'm beggining to think not. Romo has enough pressure on him. He doesn't need the threat of T.O. going off when he isn't getting the ball. Owens is eratic with his comments. One moment he is sounding like the great teammate and blocking hard on the field and behaving, the next moment, he is thowing the coordinator and Romo under the bus in a press conference. Is that good for your young players to watch? Owens is under-cutting Romo's leadership, imo.

The team needs one leader. Even the defense needs to know that this is Romo's team, not T.O.'s Romo needs to be able to be demanding of his WR's performance. Can he get on T.O. when he isn't doing something he should be doing without making Owens blow up at him? Witten can't even do it without Owens going off. Owens needs to be held accountable. It has to be the quarterback and the coaches. Romo is the franchise. If he goes, it will sink. You better think long and hard.

Miles Austin

This guy is a legit number 2 WR who had some bad injury luck this year. He can fly. How do you keep him off the field? He's a guy that will get single coverage and beat it. Romo had him for a bomb, long TD in the Baltimore game but missed him. This guy gets separation and has countless reps with Romo. Sitting him hurt Dallas this year. Are you better with Roy E. Williams and Austin or Williams and a 35 year old Owens. I say go with the youth. Why? 9-7! Enough said.

Romo could build chemistry with Williams in the off season and become the possession receiver. Romo can demand him to be great; however, he has seen T.O. push his weight around. Williams could learn the basics from Owens, but he can also learn the attitude. That is risky. Romo can be demanding of all the WRs, because he will not have to walk on egg shells or feel presured to get Owens the ball. You can't tell be he doesn't feel presure to get Owens the ball.

You have 1,3,5,2009 7th round picks invested in Williams. Austin could be a huge factor. Crayton roams the middle. Witten, Bennett, Barber, Felix the Cat, Choice...

Look at the weapons. The ball would be sprayed around, and Romo would be in command.

Note:

I have to give some credit to Theebs. I've read his posts and thought about everything I've read and heard on the subject of Owens.

I believe the moving of Henry to FS full-time is the best move for both him and the team. The only questions I have concern Williams(38) and Hamlin.
1) Will Jerry give Roy his walking papers or will he continue to hope Williams returns to form, and 2) Hamlin's play at the end of the season was just a little bit shakey. Does Jerry invest a draft pick for a SS or will they just hope for the best with Hamlin?
Also, what are the odds that Ellis might retire? I really think he has reached the end of his playing career.

With Jerry Jones you just can never tell...........:star:
