He's the 12th highest paid RT in the League in AAV. He may be the 16th best player at RT. So he is slightly overpaid based on my subjective view of where he ranks.

I'm not at all a Steele fan. But, being serviceable on a line with T.Smith, T. Booker, Beebe, and hopefully an improved Guyton, is easy to absorb and hide for most teams. IMHO

he is not even close to 16th; mid twenties at best

Which makes his pay just about in line with his performance. Hes not exactly paid like a top performer, even at his position that doesn’t have a ton of massive contracts.

Sure it is. You can’t compare veteran deals to rookie contracts as they are very different things. You have to compare veteran deals to other veteran deals.

There are backup RTs in the league that make $5m or so per year. Steele coming in at $11m is lower end starter money.

To find a cheaper starter at tackle you’re probably going with a mid 30s journeyman or high injury risk player.

I'm sorry, having a digestible contract and being hardy isn't enough to turn a liability into some kind of great asset — he's not without value in the run game (less than half of the offensive attack, by the way) but when you need help from a RB or TE to chip oncoming run-of-the-mill pass rushers just to not get your franchise QB killed, that's a problem.

He’s a really good run blocker but below average pass blocker

He played more snaps than any OT in the league last year.

People love to hate on him but that’s because they demand every RT be Erik Williams minus the multiple sexual assaults and other crimes.

The guy is serviceable and we have many bigger issues.

His problem is and has always been that when he gets beat it is UGLY lol
