Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Doesn’t Believe NFL Should Ban Eagles’ ‘Tush Push’

Watched enough of the Eagles game to see them try that play a couple times this past weekend. The first time the Commodores slanted an interior lineman really hard, may have been Young, over the center and damn near brought the play to a stalemate. I'm assuming based on the result of the first go around, Hurts didn't go between the center and either guard on attempt number two. Instead he took the ball around the left end. I think there was a penalty that ruled the play dead but the compelling part of this is the Commodores did something to cause the Eagles to alter their bread and butter. Anyone else see that play? Credit to Washington for prepping for the play and aligning differently than just being straight-up hat on a hat.

Every team has the opportunity to do the same thing. People want it banned just because they can't stop it or replicate it. Try no to put them in short yardage situations. If the D isn't good enough, that's simply not the fault of the Eagles or that one play.

I've seen enough other teams try to replicate that play and get stuffed, including the Patriots against Dallas.

It's not unstoppable. The Eagles just execute it better than everyone else. Stop them.
Exactly. Man up and stop the play, or do better on 1st and 2nd down so they aren't in short yardage. The Eagles just happen to be the team that is best at it. That is not a logical or valid reason to ban a short yardage play. And it's not like Philly just runs that same play over and over again down the field. It only works in very short yardage situations. Plus, the players will eventually retire and so the right formula for this being so good for Philly will disappear over time.

It makes as much sense as wanting to ban Wayne Gretsky from hockey because he was too good.

I agree with him to a certain extent, but the reason people have called for a ban on the play is not because no one can stop the Eagles when they run it. The reason is safety. The concern is with offensive and defensive linemen getting low and ramming into each other, there is a concern for the health of the linemen. Supposedly a lot of rugby players injure their necks in scrums like that. NFL linemen are bigger and stronger so it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt badly.

At least that is the argument against the play. I don't really know how they can make it illegal. QB sneaks have always been legal and pushing runners from behind happens a lot as well. I do think they should enforce the rule against pulling the ball carrier forward. I have seen that a few times and they seem to let it go. Pretty soon someone will run a play where the offensive line carries the ball carrier on their shoulders, like a crowd surfer, into the end zone.
Who's been injured on the play?

And with that list, how does it compare to injuries over time on any other given play?

What most here don't realize, and it's very obvious, is that all players get asked questions through the media. Like every player in the league that's good...Micah gets asked a question and he answers, he plays for the Cowboys and is the best player on the team so.....his comments are front page. Then the people who don't understand how media works respond with. SHUT UP PARSONS. Media can manipulate you guys to do anything...when I say anything...I mean like...look at DC anything.
Do “all NFL players” also have a podcast ?

I believe it was illegal at least at one point. I remember watching an old game on Youtube, maybe from about 1968, and they penalized a player for pushing his running back through. If the league sees the "tush push" as a dirty trick, I guess they could make it illegal again. If they keep it legal, teams will adapt their defenses to be able to stop it.

When Hurts breaks his leg. They will quit using it.

I disagree with him only from the aspect that it is a safety issue. Players should not be pushing other players, especially QBs, forward for yardage. In an age when the league does just about everything it can to protect QBs, this play increases the risk of injury IMO. However, it will likely take a QB getting injured doing it for the league to put some kind of protections in place.
Very little injury risk on the okay. No high speed collisions just a pile of guys. QB sneaks are similar.

On a QB sneak, the QB has more freedom of movement. If he's knocked backward, he can go that way. If he has to slide off to the side, he can. On the push, he can get caught between the defenders and the ones pushing him, which can lead to the body being put into some awkward positions.

For what it is worth, I don't believe offensive linemen should be able to ram into a pile holding up a running back and knock it forward, either. The offensive player should get the yardage he is able to get on his own without being thrust forward by anyone pushing on him.

what would happen if the defenders used their offensive line to go up against the eagles offensive line?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if Parsons' is in the minority.

The running game wasn't meant to be played that way . . . that's mine.

I just don't like the fact that the eagles now have to famous plays names after them, the philly special and the tush push/brotherly shove.
