That’s not what I asked. I asked do you think they’ll beat every team they’re favored against? You don’t think there’s a chance they’ll take someone lightly this season and it leads to a poor performance? Did you think Washington would blow them out last season with a rookie QB making the first start? The biggest enemy the Cowboys have had the past couple of decades is handling success.
I don't get any indication that the Cowboys players are satisfied. The defense goes onto the field every week with chips on their shoulders. They are on a mission to prove they are the best in the NFL, and one of the best ever defenses in the history of the NFL. Micah Parsons makes no secret of the fact that he wants to chase history. He's not competing against the weekly opponents. He's competing with Lawrence Taylor, the 2000 Ravens, the Vikings of the late 60's and early 70's, the Dallas Cowboys Doomsday defense of the 70's, the Steel Curtain, and 1970's Rams defenses with Deacon Jones and Jack Youngblood. He's competing with the 1985 Bears. He doesn't give a rip about the weekly opponent, other than to destroy them completely. And the entire defensive team has bought into it.
As for the offense, Dak was up at the podium on Sunday after the game discussing all the ways the Cowboys offense needs to improve. No complacency or arrogance - just a focus on fixing the problems and getting better.
This coaching staff has transformed the Cowboys team, which is why "27 years" has no meaning to this current team. They aren't responsible for those 27 years. They are only thinking about this year, and the next game. McCarthy has the offense purring, with 12 scoring drives through 2 games, and the defense is suffocating. The new young kicker is money. They Cowboys may have the best punter and kick returner in the NFL. They are blocking kicks, and overall they are explosive in every facet of the game.
The real scary part is asking how good the Cowboys can really be as their young TE's improve, and their Oline gets healthy. The depth on this team is scary, and the main offseason concern of many - depth on the Oline - has been answered in spades, with 7 of the 8 players on the Oline already playing significant time in the first two games. Every unit has scored, including defense and special teams. This team has few flaws, and is only going to get better when starters Tyler Smith, Donovan Wilson, and Brandin Cooks return.
Are they the best in the NFL? Though the first two weeks, only the 49ers have approached the Cowboys dominance. Even the Eagles look weaker than the Cowboys right now. We'll see how well the Cowboys play in Week 5. After that, we'll have a better idea. Next week's game against the Cardinals won't tell us anything other than what we already know. The Cardinals lost a game to a team the Cowboys beat 40-0 just a week ago. The Vegas line is 12.5. It should be double that; and the Cowboys would likely still cover the 25 point spread.
