We have had some great first round picks, with a few notable exceptions. Let's look at our recent first round picks:

LVE. Looks like a stud
Taco. Belongs on a milk carton
Elliott. Stud
Martin. Stud
Byron. Late blooming stud (probably not his fault as he was played out of position)
Fred Beard. Stud
Tyron. Stud

Obviously the notable exception is Taco. All of the above flashed significantly early on. Taco is soft and not spicy.

I agree... but, one stat this forum and the NFL community seems to be ignoring as of now - https://cowboyszone.com/threads/lve-the-downside-coverage.420406/

I think LVE is a stud, and love him.

I also think we should explore moving to a 3-4 when Lee is healthy.
Cowboys don't have the LBs (size) to move to a 3-4. Plus, it would take several drafts to draft the right kind of DTs, NT and LBs to move to a 3-4. Why would you ruin this current 4-3 D and its current players?

Cowboys already tried running a 3-4 Defense during Parcells years, and it was a total failure.

The Cowboys have always been known for having Top 10 4-3 Defenses. No way should Jerry and Stephen ever try to move back to a 3-4.

No thanks.

2019 first rounder: stud? (Cooper)

My case for Taco..

Remember how we felt about Demarcus Lawrence at this point in his career?

This particular position takes 3 or 4 years to start paying real dividends unless you draft a top 5 pick kind of guy and even then how long did it take Clowney?

On top of that he is splitting pass downs with Gregory.

I just think we need to tap the breaks on the Taco is terrible talk because I don't see him as a terrible player. He's just not getting production in the sack column.

Taco needs to seriously step it up!

A DE his size (6'6", 270, 24 years old) and age should be dominating by now in the NFL.

Yeah he is a project that is over drafted. In order to justify his draft position he would have to play lights out at some point.

Tank is a great player, but he was a project too, and Taco is showing less than Tank did at this point in their careers.

no hes not. i fully believed DLaw had nothing before he broke out. IN fact if you remember there were only 2 camps for Dlaw, and none were in the middle. Give it time, Taco is doing whats asked of him.

Now this is opinion only, but i feel once Rod is removed, either Richard will take over as DC, and have the defense going after Qbs again, or someone else more aggressive will come in and allow this team to sack QBs again.
