I agree that RT isn't our top need. Right now, it's safety ... but I'd rather spend the first-round pick on an interior offensive lineman.

I agree that safety is our top priority as far as getting someone in here, but getting someone and spending a 1st rounder are two different things. I'm not saying that you're expecting we'd take a safety in round one, just making a related observation.

I think everyone would agree that if we could Hypothetically only add one player, it would probably have to be a safety. Right now we only have 3. Church has an injury to overcome before we can really find out if he's good long term. (I think he was good enough last year, but Achilles are tough). With Matt Johnson, we have to hope he can be healthy, then hope he can actually play. McCray? Glad we have him as a ST player, but hope he never has to line up at Safety again.

That is phenomenally thin, but if we grab a guy in the 2nd or 3rd it should help.

Nice. Needs some Leon Sandcastle, but otherwise very well done.

I just want to clarify one thing, I am certainly a big proponent of best player available drafting and so my rankings are not necessarily set in stone. I think there is one tier of issues that we should devote our top resources to, and that picks/$ in between tiers can go any way. So if our scouts top player on the board is a guard, I wouldn't say go tackle with the first round pick just to go tackle. Here's how I'd look at things on a tiered basis:

Tier 1: Guard, Safety, Tackle
Tier 2: SAM LB
Tier 3: One-Tech Nose, Third DE
Tier 4: Number Two RB, Three-Tech DT
Tier 5: Depth at DE, Developmental TE

WE have 0 players on our roster from the 09 draft how pathetic is that?

Is that what this thread is about? Or are you just trying to hijack it like others always do with the "Romo sucks, JJ sucks and JG sucks woe is me" BS?

It is so sad that even one of the rare threads that focuses on talking football gets dragged into this whining. Yes, 2009 was a horrible disaster and will haunt us for years to come. But water is also wet. Bringing either up in an unrelated thread doesn't add anything to the conversation.

Now that I've vented, I would like to apologize to you personally as you just proved to be the nearest target of my overall frustration as to how far this forum has fallen.

very nice OP, well thought out and i agree with most of your prioritization

one quibble would be that i would factor in DT over SAM given the relative importance of the 2 positions in the scheme we will be running, age/injury history at DT, and the chance that we can get a decent LB later than we can get a decent DT

just my .02

That's definitely fair. And if we were using a 1st round pick on one of the two, I'd certainly want it to be DT over LB.

i think we can safely assume the rd 1 pick will be OL/DL/safety

You can make an argument for that prioritization and at this point it's a bit nit picky to put one above the other since we're not close to really know what our front office thinks of certain guys at certain spots.

We do have Brian Price under contact and you left him off the list. Not sure how much that changes that tier postion.

But I do think that 2nd RB is more of a need than you think. We really have no one who can carry the load behind Murray and he has been hurt 2 years running following an injury plagued college career. These haven't been fluke injuries like the ones Sean Lee has suffered. Odds are Murray won't play 16 games. I would be surprised if we don't end up with either a 4th or 5th rounder going to rb this year.

Great post.. You are right on the money about a lot of our needs.

Only thing I don't like is your draft picks..Aside from Cyprien and Christine Michael I really don't like any of the prospects you listed

Rigidity in any way is not good. BPA above all else is dumb. Just as drafting for need is stupid.

Value is dumb. If a guy can play does not matter what his 'value' is.

And Costa is not the answer at any position as a starter.

Livings is not someone to be penciled in except for a very short time.

Bernie might make a better center then anyone we have on the team right now but that is not exactly high praise.

Nice chart. Ryan Cook got signed by the Rams fyi

He's under contract through 2013. Jared Cook the tight end from the Titans is who signed with the Rams.

Three Technique DT is a much higher need because this position is literally the motor of the 4-3 Tampa 2 system.

Ratliff will probably man the one and regardless who they plug in the three, these guys are on the wrong side of the age and talent equation.

This position probably will be handled at some point early in the draft but is definitely a top need!

Ratliff and Hatcher are our 3's according to the coaching staff

Both are the wrong age, Broaddus seemed to think Raltliff would play the one but it does not matter.

Ratliff is on the decline and health is an issue, Hatch is older now as well.

We truly need that prototype 3 technique and if one falls look for us to pounce.

Nice post OP. Well thought out with reasonable additions.

I'd like the Durant signing because of his ability to play multiple LB positions.
