Cowboys 2025 Captain Selection

I just want to throw out there that I love what Brian Schottenheimer is doing but when he let the team pick the captains for 2025 I knew we were cooked.

He let Donovan Wilson who doesn't have a job right now in the NFL and a player they traded away to get off the team be captains of the defense. This was subject to go downhill Game 1.

What made it even worse, is that because they are captains how tf is he supposed to bench them? As a first year head coach he's likely trying to avoid as much drama as possible. Donovan Wilson gets beat game by game yet still wears the C on his chest and then you have Osa can't defend the run leaves holes as big as his 2 teeth as the next guy up.

If Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark are not the defacto captains this year - or something along those lines, these little things shape the character of the defense. Thoughts?

Well I think you got your wish, Wilson is gone, he was a product of being paid and I'm not going bench him and he's making good money (Jerry Jones influenced). With that said, the defense was horrible, it just wasn't one person.

****** Can see Downs being one if not later this season, early next season lol, I wouldn't make Overshown a captain until he proves he can play a lot of games. Tyler Booker can be one with no problem, the safety we got from the Cardinals maybe!

I can’t see them picking Downs right away because Parker likely wants him to earn it. If anything I can see him going with PJ Locke or someone he wants to be a big voice in the room with the switch in scheme.

Most NFL teams use a preseason secret players ballot.

The Cowboys are one of those teams but Schottenheimer also selects an additional captain each week based on various criteria. Maybe the Cowboys are in that players hometown, facing a former team or had a really great week in practice

A handful of teams don’t have players vote and the coach decides. Looks like that’s Commanders, Seahawks, Chiefs and, I’m assuming Giants, since Harbaugh always decided in Baltimore.

Popular culture dictates that they should all be captains, every game.

It promotes an inclusive and positive atmosphere. It also promotes self-esteem and protects the players mental health.

Yes, im fully aware that Shottys team building activities do this exact thing but its important that the players see instant reward each week......this way they're all winners!

There’s nothing that says you can’t bench a captain though.
