In the interest of promoting discussion on how we have been drafting in the early portions of the draft.

2010- Sean Lee

2011- Bruce Carter

2012- None

2013- Gavin Escobar

2014- Demarcus Lawrence

2015- Randy Gregory

2016- Jaylon Smith

2017- Chidobe Awuzie

A couple home runs in there and a couple of duds. Seems like we've been hitting on 1st rounders for awhile now( Byron is still determined) but 50/50 on the 2nd round.

Just looking at those names, take out Escobar, and they are all names of defensive players that were supposed to be 1st rounders but fell for various reasons. So if we are talking recent trends we can almost pencil in a defensive player at 50 that slips. Maurice Hurst with his heart condition comes to mind. Or Maybe Arden Key slipping for off the field nonsense.

To me the second round show's how much they lean towards value and how they will gamble on it. They will roll the dice, either by taking a risky player, or trading up for what they believe is a first round talent.

Note that both players we traded up for became All Pros

6 defense.....1 offense.

so based on the trend...it'll be a def player.

°LB Josey Jewell,Iowa
°LB Leighton Van Esch,Boise St
°S Marcus Allen,Penn St
°S Justin Reid,Stanford

°CB/S Rashaan Gaulden,Tennessee
°CB Tavarus McFadden,Fsu

Something tells me Van Esh and Bates will be very much on our radar

or is this the year we go TE.
°Dallas Goedert,SD St
°Mike Gesicki,Penn St
°Hayden Hurst,SC

and if we do,will they play them.

Most of those players had some type of injury on college or i the 1st year of being in the NFL

Lee - Great
Carter - Solid
Escobar - Bust
Lawrence - Good
Gregory - Bust... but still TBD ;)
Smith - Will be Great
Awuzie - Will be Great

Looks like an every other year deal, so this year should suck! Lol

Although last year really sucked since Awuzi practically missed the entire season.

2010- Sean Lee
Coming off injury. Amazing player.
2011- Bruce Carter
Coming off injury. JAG.
2012- None
Boneheaded trade.
2013- Gavin Escobar
Bust.
2014- Demarcus Lawrence
Injured and suspended in college, has been injured and suspended in pros. Amazing year in 2017, just in time for new contract.
2015- Randy Gregory
Huge risk, almost no reward so far.
2016- Jaylon Smith
Coming off major injury.
2017- Chidobe Awuzie
Missed 6 games due to injuries. Showed a ton of potential when he played.

Both? Who, besides DLaw?

Hard to decide Bates or LVE. Bates completes th new secondary with a ballhawk CF. While, Van Esch could be one of th top cover LBs.

Really like these two players, good their on DAL radar.

If Billy Price drops into the 2nd round because of his torn pec, Jerry will be there.

Im looking at the list thinking wasnt it 2014 that McClay started to make his presence known and Stephen Jones was tugging at the reigns.

2010 Sean Lee- great pick

2011 Bruce Carter- decent player

2012 pick when Dallas made the trade to move up and take Claiborne all I kept saying was you dont draft a CB in the top 10 that runs in the 4.45 range. He is not going to be a shut down CB.

2013 was such a stupid pick. Dallas never gave Escobar a chance and all we heard was how he was gonna be used as a redzone jump ball player. Not once did Dallas throw him a jump ball but he did make one catch running an out route and got hit and flipped into the endzone with a spectacular effort and then we never saw him again!

2014 Lawrence - great pick

2015 Gregory was a project nobody wanted to touch. bad choice

2016 Smith - mehhhhh lot of wasted time waiting to heal so far average player time will tell but they could of had a big DT named Chris Jones that went to KC

2017 Awuzie- good pick so far
