To keep it in perspective Dak was the 4th in attempts this year too
Yes. More attempts means more chances for drops.
A competent article would have shown drops/attempt.

But...

As it turns out, Mahomes/Stafford/Dak are 1/2/3 in dropped passed as well.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/passing_advanced.htm

Also gotta give it up for Dak.
He's #1 for OnTgt%.

Especially noteworthy for a guy who used to be criticized (and justifiably so) for accuracy issues.
Gotta love players who improve themselves.

No but natrually more throws are going to correlate to more drops....unless you're SF apparently. Just 9 drops for the entire season is crazy.
2.1% drops for SF (Purdy).
Next best is Steelers (Pickett) at 3.5%.

Just blowing away the rest of the league. If there were sports journalists, they'd do a story on it.

Why do you always post negative things? And aren't you being a critic by posting it?

Hater. :p
One always gives reference to the truth. Penalties also affected momentums in games earlier in the season. The team has improved...that can also be noted as well.

He's not always negative and has yelled for the Cowboys for a very long time as well.

You must not know how to process stats. It absolutely provides context. Doesn't EXCUSE a "drop" but it also may explain why we have so many more than the AVERAGE. Every team will have drops...the # vs attempts provides context.

Unless you're a cheerleader who doesn't care about math.
This QB has improved all season as did his numbers. Prescott ended up pretty productive. The team itself came together over the entire season.

I would hope Purdy doesn't have a bunch of dropped balls seeing as he throws tons of screens and very short, extended handoff passes. Purdy isn't consistently slinging it down the field, where drops happen more often rather than near the line of scrimmage.

That’s the narrative but it really isn’t true.

For passes behind the LOS
Purdy - 14% of his passes
Dak - 15.2%

Passes 0-10 yards down field
Purdy - 42.3%
Dak - 48.2%

These two guys are hitting short/medium/long depth passes at about the same rate. Only real difference is that Dak has about 150 more attempts on the year than Purdy does.

The only QB who’s receivers drop passes is Mahomes… Can’t be anyone else because he’s the only one the media mentions it happens to.

SF is run first team. Cowboys are a pass first team.

B.S.......completely.

Okay, how do you determine drops? Wouldn't it make sense that:

Drops=Targets- Receptions?

If not, then why are we saying that:

Catch percentage=Receptions/Targets

However, the Cowboys offensive players were targeted 605 times and had a total of 428 receptions for a total catch percentage of 70.7%

Now, assuming that targets refer only to those passes that could legitimately be caught, then this would assume that there would be

605-428 = 177 drops.

That is a difference of 177- 37 =140 passes that were thrown but not caught but not considered dropped.. How do we refer to those passes. Well, some of them could be INT's but teh Cowboys only had 10.

What are the requirements for a pass to have a target and an incompletion to be a drop?

Regardless of how drops are determined, they use the same rule for every team.
