Since it is the offseason and I am a little bored I was poking around on the internet and came across a list of all the Cowboys AllPros and ProBowlers so I started thinking about who would make an all ProBowl team and if we had enough at each position to do it.

You can look at the list yourself at: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/dal/all-pros.htm

Anyway, I was able to come up with a team of players who had at least 2 Pro-Bowl appearances but without any kickers, which should make Hos happy! Interestingly enough, there were 53 Cowboys with at least 2 Pro-Bowls! Pretty cool huh!

Only those Pro-Bowls WITH THE COWBOYS are counted.

Here tis (numbers are 1st Team AllPro - ProBowl) ...

32 Offensive Players:
QB -
Roger Staubach 0-6, Troy Aikman 0-6, Don Meredith 0-3, Tony Romo 0-2
RB - Emmitt Smith 4-8, Don Perkins 2-6, Tony Dorsett 1-4, Calvin Hill 1-4, Herschel Walker 0-2
FB - Daryl Johnston 0-2
WR - Michael Irvin 1-5, Drew Pearson 3-3, Bob Hayes 2-3, Tony Hill 0-3
TE - Jason Witten 1-5, Jay Novacek 1-5, Billy Joe DuPree 0-3, Doug Cosbie 0-3
C - Mark Stepnoski 0-3, Andre Gurode 0-3, Ray Donaldson 0-2
OG - Larry Allen 6-10, John Niland 2-6, Nate Newton 2-6, Herb Scott 2-3, Blaine Nye 0-2
OT - Rayfield Wright 3-6, Erik Williams 2-4, Flozell Adams 0-5, Ralph Neely 3-2, Pat Donovan 0-4, Mark Tuinei 0-2

21 Defensive Players:
CB -
Mel Renfro 1-10, Cornell Green 3-5, Deion Sanders 3-4, Everson Walls 1-4
S - Cliff Harris 3-6, Darren Woodson 3-5, Roy Williams 1-5, Charlie Waters 0-3
OLB - Chuck Howley 5-6, DeMarcus Ware 2-3, Dexter Coakley 0-3
MLB - Lee Roy Jordan 1-5, Bob Breunig 0-3
DT - Bob Lilly 7-11, Randy White 7-9, LaRoi Glover 0-4, Leon Lett 0-2
DE - George Andrie 1-5, Harvey Martin 1-4, Too Tall Jones 1-3, Charles Haley 1-2

Some guys might have played multiple positions but I put them where I felt they fit best. Also, they are in order of ProBowls + AllPros, not in how I necessarily felt they should rank.

A bit shallow at LB but what we have is pretty darn good! Otherwise, this is a really deep and good team!!!

Thoughts? Comments? There wasn't a whole lot of thought put into it, I just went by the numbers and it came out pretty good! My personal All-Time Cowboys Team looks somewhat different than this one.

Interesting that Staubach was never all-pro, even though he led the NFL in passer rating 4 times.

I think a lot of people (me included) have underrated George Andrie.

When we talk about the great DEs Dallas has had, he should always be included.

Perhaps but many people wonder if he would be half as good without Lilly beside him Bob was amazing...

also Howley made was a 5 time all pro and a 6 time pro bowler and he can't seem to sniff the HOF...Drew Pearson was a 3 time all pro and the same thing

along with Harris and Green sheesh

I find this amazing. We've never had a first team All-Pro at QB.

I'll bet dollars to donuts Romo breaks the drought.

He was an outstanding player for a lot of years but has always been overlooked since he retired, although he wasn't when he played.

The same could be said about Deacon Jones, who played alongside Merlin Olsen for a lot of his career. In fact Deacon said it himself, that his job was made a lot easier playing next to Olsen.

Other guys that played next to Lilly didn't have as great success so I think it is a disservice to say that Andrie wasn't a great player in his own right.

Perkins, Howley, Harris, and Niland all have 6 PBs but as far as I know, only Harris has ever had any serious consideration for being inducted.

There wasn't a NFL passer rating stat when Staubach played.

I drool over some of those groups. Can you imagine having that kind of receiving corps? Between the WRs and TEs you have some great players there. Throw in RBs like Walker and Dorsett for the passing game and it really makes me want to play QB with these guys!

Not to mention that O-Line, you'd have all day to throw! And of course handing off to Emmitt would just be icing on the cake!

Our D-Line would be amazing!Could you imagine Lilly & White at DT with Martin & Too Tall at DE? Now that is some amazing talent!

That really does say 5 first team All Pro's. More than Staubach, Irvin, Dorsett, Aikman, and Hayes combined.

Thumper, I never get tired of these kinds of posts.

I guess Topps didn't know that. I have a card where Staubach is highest rated NFC passer.

I would fall in that category. I don't here much talk about Andrie and Cornell Green. Original members of the Doomsday Defense. I believe Cornell made either all-pro or probowl at safety and cornerback. Not bad for a basketball player.

Not only was it 5 but it was 5 in a row! Howley was named 1st team All-Pro each year from 1966-1970. That means that for five straight years he was considered one of the two best OLBs in he game! But he's not in the HoF? :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

If I have the time I will go through the lists and see how many Cowboys were named to the All-Pro teams but didn't make 1st Team. Lots I bet.

They had that stat available but it wasn't an official NFL stat at the time. I don't remember when it became official but when Staubach retired he was the highest rated QB in NFL history. That was true only if you didn't count Otto Graham's AAFC stats, in which case he was.

OK... There were a number of All-Pro/All-NFL teams over the years besides the AP list of 1st Team and 2nd Team All-Pros. There are also the Sporting News All Conference Team, the UPI All-NFL Team, the Newspaper Enterprise Association All-NFL Team, the New York Daily News All Pro team, and the Pro Football Writers All-NFL Team. There may be more but those were the ones I saw.

There were a lot of our players who were selected to one or more of those other teams or the AP All-Pro 2nd Team. I tallied up how many years a player was selected to any All-Pro/All-NFL/All-Conference team and put those in.

There were some notable increases for the players I listed originally (AP1st team, Pro-Bowls, Any AP):

Bob Lilly 7-11-10
Mel Renfro 1-10-10
Randy White 7-9-9
Larry Allen 6-10-7
Chuck Howley 5-6-7
Emmitt Smith 4-8-6
Rayfield Wright 3-6-6
Cliff Harris 3-6-6
John Niland 2-6-6
Cornell Green 3-5-6
Pat Donovan 0-4-6
Nate Newton 2-6-5
Roger Staubach 0-6-5
Lee Roy Jordan 1-5-5
Jay Novacek 1-5-5

Deion Sanders 3-4-5
Tony Dorsett 1-4-5
Drew Pearson 3-3-5
Herbert Scott 2-3-5
Too Tall Jones 1-3-5
Ralph Neely 3-2-5
Don Perkins 1-6-4
Darren Woodson 3-5-4
George Andrie 1-5-4
Harvey Martin 1-4-4
Everson Walls 1-4-4

Bob Hayes 2-3-4
Bob Breunig 0-3-4
Troy Aikman 0-6-3
Jason Witten 1-5-3
Michael Irvin 1-5-3

Erik Williams 2-4-3
Calvin Hill 1-4-3
DeMarcus Ware 2-3-3
Tony Hill 0-3-3
Billy Joe DuPree 0-3-3
Mark Stepnoski 0-3-3
Blaine Nye 0-3-3
Ron Widby 1-1-3
Danny White 0-1-3

La'Roi Glover 0-4-2
Doug Cosbie 0-3-2
Don Meredith 0-3-2
Charlie Waters 0-3-2
Charles Haley 1-2-2
Herschel Walker 0-2-2
Mark Tuinei 0-2-2
Effren Herrera 1-1-2
Roy Williams 1-5-1
Leon Lett 0-2-1
Ray Donaldson 0-2-1

Then there are a few who never made any of those lists but made the Pro-Bowl a number of times:

Flozell Adams 0-5-0
Dexter Coakley 0-3-0
Andre Gurode 0-3-0
Daryl Johnston 0-2-0
Tony Romo 0-2-0

To make the AP 1st Team All-Pro you are considered to be the best in the league at your position. We had some of those but we had a lot of guys who were maybe the 2nd best so I wanted to give them some recognition.
