Top 10 teams on the list are Green Bay, LAR, Dallas, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Indy, Pittsburgh, NYG, and Tampa.....I see no correlation between relying on rookie deals and being legitimate playoff/super bowl contenders. The top 10, middle 12 and bottom 10 teams are all a mixed bag here.
Rookie deals are a tool and yes, very useful. Player training and leadership are dominant growth facts. They are seen within the proverbial three year window. Still the deciding factor of use.

Building an NFL roster isn’t simply about finding and retaining talent. It’s also about knowing when to let go, knowing when to roll the dice and knowing where to find the most affordable labor force. For a team like the Cowboys, managing all three of these areas is critical to the wellbeing of the salary cap.

Though the cap is highly malleable, and the Cowboys aren’t remotely close to maximizing their purchasing power under it, it is in fact a real entity that should be responsibly managed. Owners of what will likely be four contracts each averaging $19+ million in 2025, the cost-conscience Cowboys will be interested in cutting costs at all possible corners to keep payroll low and their wallets fat.

One area where the Cowboys front office particularly excels in is populating their roster with players on rookie contracts. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), players entering the NFL are capped on what they can receive in compensation from a team. Players often provide services well above their compensation levels, giving teams extraordinary bang for the buck throughout the length of their rookie deals.
its all about profits. we have 4 rookies starting for us...everyone claimed we are such a good drafting team>.....no...we suck in FA and we don't participate and thus rookies are forced to start and play major minutes.

rookie contracts are cheap....and you notice regardless of play and output, Jerry keeps players to the end of their contracts. he almost never lets them go early because he would have to pay twice for the same position if he lets a player walk early.....and thus we end up with Smith, Martin and I love them both, but should have been let go a year earlier each. or Biadasz (how many times did we discuss upgrading center), and the list goes on.

and then those with high selling jerseys get the big contracts...well, they have good ROI

Really. Just how much does Jerry Jones rely upon first two season contracts to break even?

Agree from a standpoint that there is no one way to build a team and this can have its benefits if you hit on the right draft picks. Looking at the raw data though how can we come to this conclusion?

Jacksonville, Vegas, and NYG are right on the Cowboys tails with these numbers and are regarded as some of the worst franchises in football. Meanwhile super bowl contenders such as Philly, Detroit, KC are all middle of the pack. Buffalo is 22nd. SF 27th. Washington 28th. There seem to be really good teams throughout this list and really bad teams throughout this list.

Sitting at 5-7 I'm really not seeing the advantage its had for the Cowboys this year either as they've plugged rookie contracts into the starting lineup even if they are not starting caliber players.

huh?

there is no denying jerry holds on to players to the end of their contract regardless of performance. given he has personal relationships with them, some get new contracts or added years, just because. Smith, Martin are great examples.
but look at lawrence, he kept giving him more money for about 8 games a year and about 6 sacks and he is still on the roster. biadasz, williams, mcGovern, armstrong, gallimore, etc.

now he let gallup walk, but he has smallish contract and just couldn't play anymore because of all his injuries. but kept dalton schultz, had no plans and tagged him and then let him walk once he found ferguson. did the same with LVE, despite injuries gave him a minimal contract and then let him walk.
you think he is going to extend ferguson? probably tagged one more year and go with schoonmaker. he won't pay big dollars for a guy despite being top 5 if he doesn't sell jerseys
he does let some lower round rookies go early, because loss is minimal.

to say Jerry doesn't manage roster for money is putting your blindfolds on.

No other team has done that to top home grown talent, huh. You now clap for Houston throwing out Earl Campbell...

He does a lot of good non-mainstream develop. You don't understand? You are here a liar...and don't dare see concerned about cattle about to decline. Even with our King Ranch here.

You implied they are driving him dirt poor and has to do that to be able to stay in business. Stay in Houston.

Didn't stutter a word. No say to lie the right way. I hand out respect but don't walk by ethics and morales. I'm too old and worked my honesty fully.
