Why is the NFL at war with it's own players and some teams?

First Brady and now Zeke with some others mixed in along the way like Peterson.

It seems like their top priority would be a quick resolution and minimal news coverage.

I would expect any corruption to go in the direction of the league trying to cover up for their players, not the other way around.

At the peak of Mike Tyson's career, would Don King try to have him imprisoned for bad behavior?

It reminds me of the saying: Cut off your nose to spite your face.

I realize other teams may hate the Patriots and Cowboys, but Brady is a top Star and maybe the most well known NFL player. The Cowboys still draw the most fans for the TV networks.

Most owners value money over everything. Why would only 17 owners be againt Goodell? It seems like it would be about 31 teams (Giants are the exception).

It really doesn't make much sense, fighting to the death as they do to punish star players bogus crimes*.

Goodell's saving grace with owners is revenue growth during his tenure, but I think he's spending that capital in bunches these days.

Wow X, when you are not bashing Dez non stop you actually have some good post.

I’ve wonder this same thing. Goodell and the league took a small incident that they could have 100% justifiably swept under the rug and instead turned it into a national story for months. The owners of the league should all be outraged at a league office which worked against the best interest of the league by turning it into this.

It’s beyond bizarre and a bigger blunder for Goodell than even the ray rice fiasco. He deserves to be fired without question.

The reason why only 17 owners, I think most of them were owners in some capacity before him, I think many of the new owners (total assumption) there was some pay to play. I also think the there are some smaller market teams see the commish as someone that stands up for their "meek" voices since they take the largest part of the revenue sharing. I am willing to bet the 17 owners that are standing up are the larger market teams (NYG being the exceptions) and teams that get the least in the revenue sharing.

Goddell is a socialist. He wants all teams equal. No stars or star teams. He will always seek to punish the front runners

we have a commissioner who wants the league to be northeast-centric. i don't think he or the league offices want a team from dallas/texas/south to be the focal point of the NFL anymore.
I’ve long believed this.....The most popular team in the most popular sport is located in a “flyover” state (the biggest and baddest flyover state there is) unacceptable to the elitists

You gotta “protect the shield” as Roger says. Nothing is bigger than the shield, and certainly no one person. Zeke is being sacrificed in a spasm of overreaction by old Roger to make up for past errors in the Rice case. Zeke never had a chance, as Rog feared if he allowed him to win, Zeke would do something “bad” thereafter or something would surface in this case that was missed by his “investigators”. What was right or fair did not matter. Remember after the Rice fiasco when there was a movement to remove Rog then. He was determined to not allow that again. This is more about Rog than anything Zeke did, or did not do.

Thanks, I think. :)

People (even Jerry) have implied it's an over-reaction to not punishing Ray Rice sufficiently; however, who would be pushing Goodell to over-react? The negative publicity of all the court wrangling can't be what the networks want.

It also doesn't explain the Brady ordeal. How did that help the league or the networks?

I could be reading too much into it, and even making a stretch argument here. But after responding to another post it dawned on me that the league did sue Jerry over his marketing deals in the 90's. I would bet that still irks some of the old owners, and since Tags is out they got themselves a new lackey in Goodell. Makes you wonder why he is so buddy, buddy with Mara. I'd bet there is still some animosity from Mara towards JJ over those deals. He basically changed the complexity of the entire league.
