The firing Jerry Jones didn’t make on Black Monday last year has paid off with a 12-4 season. (Joe Nicholson, USA TODAY Sports)

Welcome to Black Monday.

It’s the day that immediately follows the final game of the regular season. If it becomes any more of a ritual, it will land a corporate sponsor.

Among those who are expected to surrender their parking passes are Jets general manager John Idzik, Jets head coach Rex Ryan, Falcons coach Mike Smith, Bears coach Marc Trestman and Bills general manager Doug Whaley.

It would not be a shocker if Giants coach Tom Coughlin, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley and, yes, even first-year Commanders coach Jay Gruden join them.

DRAFT ORDER SET: Where the non-playoff teams will pick

It is also Maize and Blue Monday in San Francisco, where Jim Harbaugh is leaving to become Michigan’s coach.

Across the bay, the Raiders darkened Dennis Allen’s Monday on Sept. 29, but coach Tony Sparano and general manager Reggie McKenzie may survive into 2015.

Towering over the rubble is Jerry Jones. The Cowboys have been phenomenal in December and finished 8-0 on the road, 12-4 overall.

A year ago the football intelligentsia had written off the Cowboys permanently because owner Jones wouldn’t give up the joystick. Tony Romo had back problems and the whole franchise had midsection problems, with three consecutive 8-8 seasons.

To have long term success, one needs to build a foundation of core players then find the right role players to play around them. In the NFL, it takes at least 3 draft classes to establish that. Some teams get lucky and get success quicker, but I think teams that have prolonged success use the blueprint they believe in and keep building on that plan draft after draft. Garrett may have finally convinced Jerry that they have the blueprint, so just be patient and work the plan. The media and fans want instant success, nothing successful happens overnight.

I love it too ... but we're getting caught up in the hype. Reminds me of when we were 6-1, and everyone was giving us accolades. We then got stumped twice.

We haven't won a thing yet. Too much talk and too much bravado. Two wins and we can talk.

Speak for yourself not we. We won a division and 12 games. No one said that is the end of it.
