new set of coaches and scheme changes...when the season starts on Sept 13, 2020...will that make

the cowboys weeks behind other teams getting use to new systems and coaches and put us behind

the 8-ball no matter how good we are??

I think the coaches will simplify the game plans early on, and the first two or three games will be used as preseason games in order to gain traction.
But every team will face the same challenges, with coordination of the players being an issue.
Some will adjust better than others and gain an early advantage.

They are keeping the offense the same just adding wrinkles and game planning.

Defense isn't going to change a ton and most likely will slowly change in the next 2 years

For years we heard about "new wrinkles" and always saw the same garbage rolled out. I know Kellen "genius" Moore is still here, but surely MM will have a new plan. And there is no way we could be behind the 8-ball following Garrett.

I'm hoping they have been in multiple zoom study sessions.

Having an expanded roster now seems almost as though the new CBA knew their was a pandemic coming,, kind of coincidental some might say.
I love the expanded rosters, and might prove to be very essential in the NFL sustaining a successful season this year.

It's a crappy deal for all of us.

I want football but not at the expense of our players.

I will watch but it's going to be frustrating watching some teams win who should not be there but are there becuz of the conditions.

Having lady luck on ones side will win a SB it would seem.

Teams need depth. We are gonna see star players suddenly be infected and miss a few weeks, maybe up to 6 weeks. And thinking about older coaches that could have underlining conditions already. If someone pass away from this then it’s gonna be terrible. Guessing there will be waivers signed.

I feel 1000% better going into this situation with McCarthy and his experience rather than a brand new NFL HC.

Well luckily two other teams in our division are in the same boat with much worse rosters, I’m not worried about it.

I am glad you put your name at the end of your post. Otherwise, I would have never figured out who started it. This board doesn't have the OPs names listed anywhere in thread so I would have been sssssoooooooooo confused.

Anyway, it's going to make it difficult to do your super copper guarantee this year.

With the new coaching staff we were scheduled to get extra time. Extra time we could have used to get a great draft class up to speed.

Very bad year for us for an abbreviated offseason.

At least we have MM now, and not Garrett. As Garrett usually did not start off the season well. Always behind, even if they won the game, it was sometimes sloppy. Or the other team was even more sloppy.

I won't say they will be like preseason games (as the younger players will not be in late part of the games), but they may be pretty generic to what will be shown later on.
However the TC's this year could be changed up a bit to instill the new schemes more into practices once the pads come on. I seen where they can't have padded practices until August 17th. So from the 28th until then will be the very basic stuff.

The 1st Special Edition came out this week, and this was kind of brought up. How will the players do with the schemes changes and less time to install.
Most thought they would be ok, as players been focused on learning the playbook. Just hope all been keeping in shape. The one thing they have going for them, is Kellen Moore is still the OC, so much of it will be similar, at least to start.

This season, if played, will provide good insight as to what the Cowboys have in McCarthy and Staff.

I’m just curious how the UDFA’s and Dinucci’s of this team get any playing time etc? How will anyone know if they are any good? When the lights come on I mean? Lots of players are good at practice. People have said Dak sucks at practice but flips the switch when the lights come on. This is going to be weird with no PS.

This may be a good time to stash him on the PS. As no teams will be poaching UDFA's to be on the 53 man rosters. Teams will want experienced players that can jump right in and play.
Each roster spot will have more meaning now. So I believe they will stay with 2 QB's, and not 3.

Two ways to approach a limited amount of time to prepare. One is to have a heightened sense of urgency and commitment and the other is to fall behind early and accept that that limited time was the reason for failure.

These coaches and players have been around football all their lives and seen what creates success and failure.

It is a new HC and DC and new offense, not a retread of the old one, and the majority of these players wanted these changes. We'll see how they respond.

The O has been together and keeping the same OC so their path is a lot easier than the D with a new DC, new players, new system and the weak link in the chain.

Have you noticed how easy it has been for the players to let the media give the heat to the coaches? And it's not just this team but ones before it. They've got a HC and DC in need of reproving themselves and we'll see how they respond to a shorter window of preparedness.

As far as preseason games, I do not agree. They would be playing vanilla on both sides of the ball and only bubble players getting any playing time. Coaches have less time in camp, do you think they'd be risking their starters in any preseason games or saving them for the real thing? It's going to be sloppy but it always is with 4-5 preseason games so I don't see that as anything but a positive with more time to prepare. Every team gets to focus on that opening game. We might even see less sloppy play without the pretend games.
