Here is my opinion. What is yours?

Note the ninth round was particularly weak over the years.

Round Player
1 Emmitt Smith

2 Larry Allen

3 Harvey Martin

4 Pat Donavon

5 Herschel Walker

6 George Andrie

7 Rayfield Wright

8 Kevin Gogan

9 Kenny Gant

10 Roger Staubach

11 Jethro Pugh

12 Larry Brown

13 Herbert Scott

Beasely Reece was taken in the 9th by the Cowboys. He only played a year with us but he was in the league for 9 years. He could be considered I suppose.

1. Bob Lilly, 1961 (Hard to pick. Some amazing 1st rounders over the years.)
2. Mel Renfro, 1964 (Honorable Mention to Larry Allen, 1994)
3. Harvey Martin, 1973
4. Tony Tolbert, 1989
5. Blaine Nye, 1968
6. D.D. Lewis, 1968
7. Rayfield Wright, 1967 (Honorable Mention to Bob Hayes, 1964)
8. Kevin Gogan, 1987
9. Kenny Gant, 1990
10. Roger Staubach, 1964

Reece was a good player but not for Dallas. My criteria was what they contributed to the Cowboys.

Emmitt turned out to be a great first round pick in 90, but there so many other good players we drafted in the first round. Frankly, I think we need to talk about Troy Aikman (first round pick in 89) given the importance of the QB position; Michael Irvin (first round pick in 88) was no slouch either. There's a reason these 3 became known as the Triplets.

No love for Barber in the 4th?

If the Barbarian has a couple more pro bowl seasons, he'll jump Tolbert =]

As much as I hate to mess with anyone on the Doomsday defense, I'd argue that Witten is the proper choice for the third round.

Plenty, and Canty too. But for now Tony Tolbert's career contributions weigh more.

He will be at some point. For now, I am talking strictly careers.

Careful. You're showing your age. :)

what round did Dallas draft Hennings in?
How about Jimmy Smith?
How about Bob Hayes?

Why don't we nominate players for each round then take a poll for the winner.

Hard to argue with those two in the 2nd, but I have to go with my favorite Cowboys ever. Afterall, its not everyday a converted linebacker turns into a 225 strong safety you can line up on Jerry Rice in the slot. Thats right, my vote for the 2nd round is the great DARREN WOODSON.

1 Bob Lilly
2 Mel Renfro
3 Jason Witten
4 Pat Donavon
5 Blain Nye
6 George Andrie
7 Rayfield Wright
8 Kevin Gogan (Hard to believe)
9 Kenny Gant
10 Roger Staubach
11 Jethro Pugh (Close 2nds were Chad Henning, Dennis Thurman and a guy named Pat Riley of NBA fame)
12 Larry Brown

11th Round for Henning

2nd Round for Smith.

Bob Hayes was drafted in the 7th Rd.

I put Donovan over Tolbert because Donovan played left tackle and went to four pro bowls. Tolbert, great though he was, played in only one pro bowl and played left defensive end most of the time.
