Cowboys biggest needs for next year

CB's are so hit or miss I'd entertain signing a proven FA if one becomes available.
Our young TE's seem to be progressing nicely: If Schultz doesn't sign a reasonable deal, draft another mid-rounder.
DT and O'Line are biggest areas of need through the draft. Another good running back won't hurt either, although I like what I'm seeing out of Davis.

I really want that DT that can blow up the middle of the line. I want teams to have to drop back and pass because they can't run.

Sign FA Daron Payne would be my dream move.

Man losing JLew has hurt big time. It’s almost like AB has played worse since he got hurt. I’ve always though AB was average which is fine but I’m ready to try and find a more competent #2 as well. Bland might be ok as a 3rd / 4th but those 3rd rounders we drafted are backups.
I have to agree on that Brown has looked like the Brown we were wanting to run out of Dallas a few years back. Our secondary really complemented each other out there.
I think Bland will only get better with more playing time Joesph Im just not sure about.

I’d put DT and LBr higher as our run D is a bigger issue but if a stud CB falls in the 1st i’m down.

I would love it if e could sign Daron but it's just a pipe dream with this front office. lol
I think that JJ will try and keep Dalton because he has a history with Dak. I would love it if we could keep Pollard but if they sign OBJ just don't see them having the money to keep him. I have stated many times that I would rather we take that money to keep Pollard around. The run game is our bread and butter. OBJ wants a longer deal than just a rental for the playoffs. To keep him around Im sure its going to cost us 12-15 mil a year Which could pretty much sign Pollard for the next 3 years.
If Tyron Smith comes back and plays we have our LT and LG Resign Steel he is an RFA.

Our biggest need is going to be someone that can stop the run.
We still need WR, CB. LB? DT RB?
If Tyron doesn't come back or he stinks it up then add OL to that

It makes sense too because I don't see any "war daddy" DTs coming out in this year's draft. Payne is a proven commodity. Do it Jerruh!

Oh man I’d disagree…this years DT class is fun. Jalen Carter is a legit blue chiller and Breesee ain’t there far behind him.

A realistic option is Ika from Baylor who is a mammoth run clogger that gives you a little pass rush juice.

Shoot I’d double down with Payne and a draft pick if it made sense.

Yea I’d like to franchise Pollard to keep at least 1 more year.

That being said we need to be looking in the draft to stay cheap at that position.

I don't expect Carter to be available where we'll pick.

I'm usually very reluctant to dismiss prospects simply based off the particular school they went to (genetic fallacy), but every big DT stud from Baylor in recent memory that's supposed to have been a beast have all fallen flat in the NFL; see Andrew Billings, Danny Shelton, Phil Taylor (am I missing anyone?)

I know Siaka Ika started off in LSU, but I'm skeptical.

I hear ya on Carter, pipe dream.

Ika seems different. I think he had like 30+ pressures last year which is absurd for a dude that big and he seems to be a crazy athlete for that size.

If all the analysts label him as a late 1st rounder I’m in.

Yea, just don’t draft a RB in round 1…awful draft strategy.

Round 2 is even a little rich for me unless it’s an absolute stud that is BPA.

I’d look round 3/4.

I would have to agree there is going to be too much talent in other positions
They will fall because RB isn't in a high position to be coveted anymore. there will be some talent there in 3-4

I really like Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis but both players have suffered terrible injury in mid to late stages of careers. Who knows what 2023 brings for either player. .

With QB’s getting roughing the passer calls for them if you as much as sack them with a level of violence and DB’s at a premium you have Diggs Bland and ….?

Kelvin Joseph is going up against a young gun slinger in Jax next week followed by AJ Brown Davinta Smith and co after that . Let’s see how he holds up .

Will McClay get the tape on for 2023 DB’s early in next years draft .

Good post. To add on, the Cowboys know what Lewis n Brown can do, so to get to see KJ, Bland n Wright in live games getting all those reps will help the evaluation making it clear how McClay/FO should approach the CB position in the offseason.

Absolutely it’s time to evaluate KJ & Wright . Bland I’ve seen is NFL caliber let’s see about the other 2 who cost Dallas premium picks .

Malachi Moore certainly if available round 2 a fellow Crimson Tide Diggs can take under his wing. 6’0 190 not the tall rangy CB Quinn likes but every bit as worthy a 2 as KJ who was a gamble . Alabama turns out NFL players .

After yesterday I'm onboard for a CB and LB. Barr is not the player he use to be he has been hit and miss and everyone that brought LVE down can see how he was missed.
KJ is not the guy we need sorry and neither is Wright. Brown is coming off an injury plus is a FALewis is coming off an injury as well.
Poor Micha I think is just worn out playing DE even he has said it is taking a toll on his body. Would love to see Noah Sewell here. :)
I honestly feel that they need to put Micha playing more Lb than DE.

Interesting how this has aged
1) I don’t think Pollard will walk. He’s just too explosive. I bet they franchise him.
2) OL remains a big need but I think it’s at OG, not OT. I can see a future where Tyler and Steele are the bookends and Tyron is a swing/mentor for years
3) TE is fine. I bet Ferg and Hendershot become best buds and work together over the off-season and become a solid starting duo. Let Schultz go and get that comp pick
4) if they really want to stop the run, they will need to go get an entrenched FA like Payne. I don’t think a draft pick outside the top 15 gives you appreciable improvement in run D

New need not in the OP
CB - you just saw why you need CBs. We need another starting outside corner, or a slot if Bland can go outside

Sadly the needs list looks even bigger.

WR
DT
OL
LBr
CB
RB (if Zeke gets cut)
