Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer - I'm not panicked

And that's why he never wants to rebuild.
True, but continually aiming to be mid will backfire eventually. The high end offensive line, a few weapons, and a high turnover defense kept the team relevant for the past decade. Romo was able to keep the relevance with a decent defense and great escapability and gunslinging against lesser teams for years. Dak’s mobility declined so severely last year that it would not surprise me at all to see the team plummet soon (this year or soon after).

OK and that is very fair. I tend to agree--at least to a degree. But here's what I would like to know, and I'm not being wise- its a genuine question: At what point during the season will you start having doubts about the team overall?

if we get beat by 3 TDs week one?
if we are worse than 2-2 after 4 games?
4-5 at the bye?
Or do we just keep kicking the can down the street with excuse after excuse and the team has a get out of jail free card this year?

What is a fair point in your opinion for people to say....yeah this isnt good.?
Thanksgiving.

thank you rockport. Thats a good time frame. Im a little earlier but yours is probably more fair. Im hoping for 5-4 at the bye. I would be thrilled.

Not going to worry. I already feel like we’ll be just like the Texas Rangers. A middling team that will hover around .500. I guess that’ll be considered a successful season for Shotty.

We do not have adequate depth and we’ll be picking around the 12th to 18th spot in next year’s draft.

I think cowboy fans might be the only ones still overreacting to preseason struggles. I don't see other fans doing this silly stuff. You guys have been watching football for years. Knock it off
Cowboys fans are panicked every time they fail to get a first down!

That is what you say publicly when your boss keeps telling you to make his idea work instead.
It is trial and error preseason, of course it matters to a degree, but it is not the prime indicator of how the regular season pans out. There is more dysfunction in this organization than just Jerry Jones although he should never have made himself the GM to begin with. I don't think he even has the faculties or energy being in his 80s to singularly and internally control everything. But he loves to create the impression that he is in charge publically. Jerry is an owner with fundamental say-so but chiefly a marketer. I wish the Jones family would sell the team but that will not happen in our lifetimes. Family run business can be generational.
