Cowboys coach challenges Micah Parsons to take on stronger leadership role

It's pretty hard to be a leader when you spend crunch time taking a knee on the sidelines trying to catch a second wind................... Too many times Parsons has been seen on the sideline of games in the 4th quarter looking lost and winded. He's turned himself into a ONE TREAT PONY and isn't worth the 40 million a yr, so-called experts are talking about.
He's a great player probably the greatest the team has ever seen!!

I just wish he'd offseason train and lift with the team, not do his own thing in Austin or wherever. I think that's important, and I get the feeling he doesn't lift as hard as he should. He should be an easy 255-260 by now.
Or in Tokyo, to get his big deal he'll be there this year next year he won't, it'll be said that the TEAM IS AWARE of it and have no issue lol

Its really not fair to say being on the outside looking in, but I would tend to agree with this. Micah is vocal, shows emotion on the sidelines, but I still get the sense he has some growing up to do. Being loud and the best player on the field does not make you a leader. Its one of the areas that I do worry about with this defense. Granted it could very well be addition by subtraction as Dlaw seemed to be that guy in recent years, but I would like to see someone else really take on that role than Micah, I just dont know who it would be. Micah is a guy who doesnt like to show up for voluntary mini camp, and would rather work out on his own. That's fine, a lot of guys do it, but I expect more out who I want being the on field leader.
Posts like this are why I take the time to read everything you write. Nice work.

Micah is not a leader. He is too wrapped up in himself and his stats.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it reported that Parsons hadn't reached out to Zimmer for months despite him being the new DC?

Some can say that it was on Zimmer to reach out to him but if a player is a true leader, they take the initiative to contact the new man with a new scheme.

Leaders do that type of thing.

Quarterbacks always get with a new OC immediately because they have to understand the scheme and relay it to the rest of the offense.....Parsons could have shown leadership by doing the same for the defense

Probably was upset his boy DQ was leaving. Here lies another opportunity for him to make this happen, we will see. I'm hoping by now that they've had plenty of conversations. He talks to Jerry a lot, he needs to get to talking with eberflus

Leaders are mature enough to accept the switch in DC

Parsons has said repeatedly that the NFL is a business and personnel changes are constant.

If that's his excuse, he's got a maturity problem and that excludes him from a leadership position.....don't ever mistake superior physical ability for leadership

TRUTH!!!!!!!! I think that's grossly looked over wow, powerful words!!!!

Being a so called “team leader” is often misunderstood. Many see leadership as a guy who is the center of the pregame huddle who is yelling the loudest. Or the one giving motivational rah-rahs in the locker room.

To me leadership for a team sport starts with a man’s example. Putting the team’s goals first, doing things the right way, strong work ethic, showing more than telling. Micah does some “showing” for sure, but he also needs to reduce the amount of “telling” he does on the social media front.

Zack Martin was a leader in the right way. Worked hard, stayed focused on team goals and was highly respected despite being a quiet personality. He was one of the most respected guys in that locker room.

Micah Parsons is the most talented guy on this team. But to this point in his career he does not appear to place his role as a team leader above his personal goals. Will we ever see that? Who knows.

The Green Bay playoff game was real. It happened. These guys were all a part of that and were supposed to be our "best" players. Maybe things will change but I am not holding my breath. Dak is our "leader" and he let is best friend run around doing whatever he wanted. IMHO nothing is gonna change without a real purge.
