Cowboys' coaching staff likes Julius Jones' pass-catching ability

RB's SHOULD be catching the ball coming out of the backfield....go back and look at Emmitt's stats and how the team fared once he started getting fewer catches out of the backfield.

It's a weapon that we have abandoned for far too long.

In the giants game in his rookie season he caught several passes- bobled one off of his helmet. He got better. He has gotten better at catching the ball. At ND under Willingham they did not throw to backs. Sort of like Oklahoma was for a long time. He is decent now, sometimes good. Actually he has made a couple of difficult catches of some of BLedsoes worse short passes- and dropped a couple that hit him in the hands.

can you site a legitimate drop?

I can.....I hate to interrupt the banter....but I can site a drop.

Against the Giants last year in the Meadowlands. Romo passes to JJ in the flat. JJ can't hang on, and kicks the ball out of bounds. The officials ruled that it was a backward pass, but we had it reviewed. It was overturned as a forward pass.....

Later in the third quarter, JJ made up for the gaffe with a fine screen play.

AGREED!

Jones looks like a body builder trying to catch the ball. His arms don't seem to come out far enough to the ball and he jabs at it at times. There is no fluidity in his catches and rarely catches the ball in stride. He wasn't nearly as bad last year as the year before (where he bobbled what seemed like every other pass), but Barber is the much more fluid pass catcher.

Julius will never have great hands but he has made significant strides since he joined the team.

The big reason to get him involved more is his ability in the open field - he is a very dangerous weapon that is being underutilized.

Barber has better hands but doesn't have the same kind of speed or open field moves.

I am glad they think Julius can catch because he hasn't been very good at running.... Sounds like they are changing things up to help him all they can, but in the end running is more important.

So next year, say hello to McFadden (our #1 pick) -- a real running back that doesn't whine or make excuses.

No, it actually sounds like WP wants to get some passes to a RB... unlike Parcells.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Parcells didn't know a RB is allowed to catch passes out of the backfield.

He should after a fullback continued to catch passes game after game last year against us.... I mean slow is slow, but come on......

More brilliant observations from Bill Parcells coming soon.

But he is a Hall of Fame coach :puke:
