Cowboys considered two QBs in draft

I would've mind Dallas grabbing either QB or another, stack up. I hope Shedeur and Qinnn do well and bounce back.

Yes, it's confirmed. It's in his second day presser. Or when he answered questions afterwards. Just Google something like, Jerry Jones thought on why Shedur Sanders fall in the draft

And if you pay attention there are several reports out that claim judging by the reaction in the Cleveland war room the Sanders pick was Haslam's call. Neither Stefanoski nor the GM looked particularly happy. It also says Stefanoski prefers Dillon since he fits their style offense..

When the boss speaks......
Sounds like Shedeur will be available for a 4th rounder next off season a la Bazooka Joe.

Nice. Thanks for the info. I’m going to take another deep dive into that. Thanks again

Regardless of what you think of Sanders, by the 5th round, does it matter? It's low risk.

I just don't understand the Browns. Why did they draft two QBs?
The GM said in round 5 the "acquisition cost was low". He was basically too great of a bargain to pass up on a QB needy team.

While the Cowboys did not have any plans on drafting a quarterback after acquiring Milton, as two names slipped, they became more of a consideration for Dallas: Shedeur Sanders and Quinn Ewers.

Sanders is someone that Jerry Jones pounded the table for in Thursday night’s press conference to be drafted by a quarterback-needy team. While conversations did continue behind closed doors, there was an expectation that Dallas would have had to trade back into the fourth round to get him. That obviously never made it further than the concept phase, and Sanders was finally selected with the No. 144 selection by the Cleveland Browns, just five picks before the Cowboys went on the clock for the first time on day three.

Ewers was someone that Schottenheimer saw throw at Texas’ Pro Day back in 2024 for receivers Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell, and he had kept his eye on the DFW-raised signal-caller. His name was another that got thrown around in the draft room on day three, but Dallas resorted to filling needs at other spots. Ewers was finally selected in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins.

If we had Sanders, this would be the #1 question asked to every Cowboys employee- "How's Sanders doing?" All of our ears would be bleeding.

Baker Mayfield was just as cocky (maybe more), yet he got drafted #1 overall.

There is an obvious double standard throughout the NFL ownership, teams and coaches.

Before claiming double standard read what Merril Hoge had to say about Sanders game does not translate to the NFL. Hoge is the same guy who said anybody who takes Manziel in the first round will regret it

He says Sanders is throwing bubble screen (at or near the line) 50% of the time (Really about 35%) that won't work in the NFL.

He says that is to protect the player. But is also inflates his completion percentage.

Just like Mike Evans helped Manziel, Sanders had Travis hunter helping him, it would seem.

Just watch some of Shedeur Sanders' games. Look at his season weekly stats. The guy can make most throws. That's because he was under constant pressure all season long.

Ridicule his father or even his own cocky attitude all you want, but the tape shows Shedeur can make most, if not all, throws on the field. I know what I've seen (even though I don't care for Sanders), so I could care less what Merril Hoge says.

False, he is WAY better than some of those QBs taken before him. If people don't see he was played by the league it's crazy. All because of how cocky he is
He fought a war that he could never ever possibly win. I call that a Bigtime Fail on him and his Daddy. They thought that they controlled the game, they left as mere pawns.

Ironic that Cleveland drafted him given the comments Deion made about how rookie QBs should steer clear of Cleveland (a few years back) and the follow-up that if a team they didn't want to play for picked him there would be a Manning situation.

He later backed off both comments, but you never can put that stuff back in the can.

Shedur didn't help his case with bad interviews. He looked great his pro day. But teams know it's all designed to show what he does well while hiding his flaws.

So you have limited mobility, wobbly passes, bad attitude, and as Mike Tomlin said, how well he fits with the QBs already in the room.

You don't draft someone who needs attention, hold handing, and a lot ego stroking.

And even Booger offered to give him character reference, but said he saw no purpose in drafting him.

The NFL said he's just not worth the headaches of all the trouble he brings.

End of story
I thought he looked horrible at his pro day, was complete grade school vs other pro days that I have seen.

Ridiculous.

Yes, Deion's assistants do a lot of work, but so does Deion.

If anyone has a problem with Deion is because they either are jealous of his professional career accomplishments or they see him as a threat to their own profession as a coach in terms of knowledge. Ex-football bench warmers feel threatened by the real stud ex-player now coaching in their professional field.
No, no. I found it all interesting. But like I said, I've been following closely since Jackson State. Then, when they got to Colorado, I could see the writing on the wall. It isn't even about winning with them, although they'll swear it is. Their schtick is marketing and money, else why all the cameras and YouTube/social media stuff?

It's just not gonna work when you have 52 other players. Shedeur hasn't even played in the NFL. But if you don't think he's great, just ask him.

It's off-putting and I lost interest after how Deion handled the kids at Colorado.

They're not all going to be stars and winners. It's college. What he did lacked class. And now it's payback time....Karma, if you will.

Cleveland is desperate for a franchise QB and drafting two QBs increases the odds they could hit on one. The Cowboys drafted Aikman and Walsh in 89.

Perhaps teams remember Mayfield and his cocky behavior and saw choosing him in the first round was regrettable. They may not have wanted to make the same mistake the Browns did.

It’s probably a good a idea to watch what the Cleveland Browns do and do the opposite.

Because they have nothing long term at QB and know they may still have nothing.

Baker was not cocky in the interviews though. Baker did not fail the tests that coaches threw at him.
Baker was 5x the qb in college that Shedeur was.
Did you see that a coach sent Shedeur a 20 page install package 1 week prior to their meeting, the coach purposely put in many mistakes, Shedeur caught zero of them.

What’s the double standard?
