The good news, in my eyes. Is that while both Ferguson and Bland had money shoved into later years, they were actual “true contract years” and not void years.

Money pushed way in the future would have possibly compelled the Cowboys to keep one or both longer than they should.

We’re still closely tied to both through 2029, which is too long for both, but it could have been worse.

They were interested in alot of CB's early, and so far the guy they did draft looks unplayable. They probably want to get out of Blands deal next year

Maybe, I would need over the cap to update this information but depends on how that effects things after this year. Crosby or someone else worth 30 million a year for one year would not be on books next year.

Before we get carried away with Christian Gonzales and Maxx Crosby, the Cowboys don’t have $30m available. I know they do on paper, but there are obligations that aren’t captured

• players 52 and 53 aren’t counted until kickoff . Thats around ~$2m
• The practice squad is another ~$4m
  • Both of those are non negotiable
• Beyond that, most every team, including the Cowboys, keep between $5-8m to deal with injuries. If a player goes on IR, they still get paid, but the team has to bring in someone else to fill the roster
• So, the actual number is closer to $18m

If there’s a “big” move coming, I’m putting my money on Josh Sweat.

• Arizona has no reason to keep bin becuse they are in tank mode.
• He publicly said he doesn’t want to be there.
• He fits a serious need
• He played for Parker in Philly
• Arizona has already paid out like $7m of his 2026 cap hit
• The incoming cap would be around $10m
• We can absorb him easily and still keep $8-10m for trade deadline deals or rollover to offset s small portion of the piper that has to be paid next off season

By the way, take note of the local sports guys running with Maxx Crosby. Without some even more problematic restructures, they can’t afford him. They just want your clicks

Not really -- this is sort of automatic restructure stuff. You always want to push cap hits into later years because they will become a smaller proportion of your cap as it rises -- it is like a 10% increase each year. Likely much larger next year, given the actions taken that have screwed our economy.

This is just some basic cap 101 stuff.

It is but this isn’t the only reason why they did it.

In my honest opinion.... Dak should have been the first one to somehow renegotiate his contract and free up even more money. I can't tell another man what to do with his money, but Dak is already set for life and if he wanna really compete for it all and remain part of a highly competitive team to help him cement a real legacy, he could help bring in more talent teamwide by freeing up some of his salary.
