I agree. But they could tag and trade him. If he plays really good, they could probably get a 1st rounder for him. I really don't think they pay him. Stephen has hinted towards that. However, I do think a lot will depend on how well the Cowboys do this season. I don't think being a 12-5 paper tiger, like we were 3 years in a row, will get it done.

I’m not sure what the difference would have been from a cap perspective if they restructured these deals next year as opposed to this year. I would imagine it would kick the can down the road a year further but I’m not entirely sure.

This take is probably the most sane right now.

I doubt a move is imminent. I see this as merely a just in case maneuver. As Jane said, should the opportunity present itself, the team would be ready to absorb the contract.

I can't see them making a move for C. Gonzalez (CB Pats) or J. Porter (CB Steelers) simply because of the contract they would be required to pay them. Not sure it would resonate well in the locker room, especially with GP, if they throw a big contract to a new player who has never played a game for the Cowboys or produced for the team.

Crosby would make sense based on his existing contract already in place. The team would likely restructure it giving most of the base salary as a bonus. It still wouldn't keep them from attempting to sign GP, although after Stephen Jones comments about paying two top WRs, I don't think both will be in Dallas in 2027. They could franchise GP again, but again, how will he react to that a 2nd year in a row?

I doubt that the $33MM in cap room means much of anything for 2026. We'll see.

They are preparing in case they have an opportunity to land a big fish. They are trying to do so now. I believe what they are wanting to do to start the season. Let teams like the raiders fail and see if they can't catch a big fish on a fire sale. Any money not used rolls over so this is great for Dallas either way.

Two parts to this move.

Yes, they have money to act if an opportunity to land Crosby or another big fish arises.

But also, they only have 4 draft picks next year. This loosens up money to subsidize the lack of picks with more free agents.
