Next year we need to work on getting those sack numbers up. We are about middle of the pack, which is an improvement over last year. Hopefully a free agent signing or two coupled with the improvement of 1-2 returning players on the Dline should go the trick

I think we'd have a small uptick even without landing someone new. But I want nothing less than a monstrous pass rush.

Yup. The reality is the pass rush is better now than it's been in years...and that includes last season when we had Demarcus and Hardy as bookends.

I swear some guys fall in love with trouble players for the same reason they fall in love with troubled women. "If they are a total pain in the arse...they must somehow be worth the fuss, right?"

98% of the time the answer is Hell No!

Who falls in love with troubled women?? Now troubled gorgeous women, is a whole different analogy. :D

I've always felt that if Romo didn't get hurt, the team would have kept winning, and Hardy would have stayed motivated, and a run at the Super Bowl would have been a probability.

Yes 11 years of futility with Romo had me believing we were on the cusp of greatness.

Agree 100%. And I have no idea how some fans around here were still clamoring for him this past offseason. He's out of the league for a reason. Only 28 years old and he's done.

I like our current front and those men have room to grow.

Here is Hardy's latest career.

A bloodthirsty QB hating straight out of the lunatic asylum passrusher. The crazier the better and no meds from Friday night until after the game on Sunday. Keep in a cage during the week!! Feed him raw meat.

And Hardy's departure, Demarcus' suspension led to a roster spot for Irving. We got some serious lemonade from 'dem lemons.

And that would be true if not for the fact that Irving played along side of both Hardy and Lawrence for 12 games after we signed him off Kansas City's practice squad on September 29th of last season. Not that I have any love for Hardy but neither of those events led to his roster spot since he was already here.

Even with Hardy gone and Lawrence absent...Irving was a backup early in the year. It's hard to see how he would have got the necessary reps for the breakthrough that he's enjoyed.

Not sure if you missed the thread I posted about this a few days ago but we are not middle of the pack in sacks. We are #12 in the league In sacks

Very true but there still is a gap from where we are and the pressure that the elite teams bring.

We are in the bottom third in the NFL in hurries. It's certainly gotten a ton better but we have a ways to go.

There are many on this board who believe he was the victim of domestic violence. 120 lb women really are a huge threat when you are 6'4" 280... Says no one with half a brain or more.

Rumors abound that Greg Hardy wore out his welcome with teammates, coaches and many fans in his one-year stint with the Cowboys. Many of us didn't want him in the first place considering his abusive and erratic behavior.

Greg Hardy was moody, often late or absent to practice... and inconsistent on the field as well. He played 12 games with a star on his helmet. Produced 6 sacks and 12 hurries.

What's interesting is to compare how the Cowboys have done with less after jettisoning the troublesome player.

When I see Rod Marinelli waddle along the sidelines I can't help but think of the notorious penguin character from the old Batman TV show. Rod is a taller penguin to be sure, but a pure mastermind villain to opposing offenses.

It's with amazement we consider what Marinelli and his bad boys along the defensive line have accomplished despite the dumping of Hardy and the lack of consistent production from Demarcus Lawrence (suspension and injuries).

2015
Points allowed per game: 17th
Overall defensive ranking, yardage: 16th
Sacks: 31
Hurries: 71

2016 - thru 15 games
Points allowed per game: 4th
Overall defensive ranking, yardage: 16th
Sacks: 34
Hurries: 79

Interesting questions to consider: If Jerry had brought Hardy back this season...Would the locker room chemistry be as positive? Would David Irving have emerged as the force he is today? Would Irving even be on the team!?!
Marinelli liked Hardy and wanted him back. He even pointed out the exact number of times that DLaw benefitted from Hardy drawing extra blockers.

If Jerry had stayed completely out of it, then Garrett might have been able to handle Hardy by benching him, but I think Jerry insisted that Hardy start.

Personally, I think the girl intentionally got Hardy into trouble and then Hardy buckled under the media pressure. Coming to Dallas was probably the worst place for him. Nobody would have bothered him if he had gone to Jacksonville.

He looked like the best DE in the league in his first game as a cowboy...Too bad he can't get it together.

Look x...you and I both know that some women can't push fraud charges for revenge, money or fame. But we seriously can't look the other way here. Photos were telling and Hardy basically conceded his action in a tweet following the release of his photo. A court and the NFL investigation said: physical abuse. And the guy demonstrated serious anger management issues while w/the Cowboys.

Topping it off the guy is busted on felony drug charges in September.

I'll assume you didn't hear the full story.

Jerry was the only one who wanted Greg and a year later not a single team even talked to the guy.
