Cowboys D is going to have to get better on the outside runs

Not forgetting that Mazi has been a fail in general up to this point and Odiggy extremely poor at run stoppage...Kneeland and Micah definitely need to show more improvement at setting the edge.
And then you also hafta consider even IF Eberflus effectively schemes it up you hafta have the instincts and athleticism of 2 sideline to sideline type backers in the nickel.

Skeptical of Sanborn's athleticism. Not sure on Murray's instincts as well.
Corners can't be timid decision makers. That's practically all the Cowboy corner mindsets.
Bell and Thomas are decent but less experienced than Wilson and Hooker. Wilson is too slow now and Hooker is more the coverage safety than run stopper.

So yeah,
Seeing is believing for me and any forecasted run defense improvement.

Couple of comments:

-Hooker actually is one of our top rated run defenders.
-People kill Mazi and rightfully so, but they give Osa a pass as he is also a very poor run defender
-It starts with DE's setting the edge, thought Golston was the best at it and he is now on the Giants
-Do like Sanborn's instincts and am not worried so much about he lack of athleticism. Appears he or Marist willl be our Mike LB. Heard Murray will be playing the Will, which scares me.
-Corners cannot be so passive in filling their gap, but also they cannot be expected to take on OL blocks with any consistency.
-Safeties cannot freelance, they must maintain their run fits or huge cut back lanes open up.

Yeah the good thing is though that it doesn't matter what tape they ran it's going to be a completely new defensive staff a new scheme and we're going to find out if whatever these changes that are being made work anything that happened last year doesn't matter anymore I think that's the point people are trying to make breaking down film I mean the whole entire defense was horrible last year because of injuries first and foremost the depth was terrible when you start putting weak players that should have been on the bench as starters it doesn't help anyone around them it was terrible it was beyond reproach of how bad the depth was last year because we were playing a bunch of backups too many injuries just like in 2020 and just like in 2020 when we lost our quarterback we changed our entire defensive staff and in this case we've changed everyone so nothing that happened last year on tape is going to matter we're trying to take the heat off of Mozzy ok I get it cause I saw a lot of those runs...

But with a new scheme and new players I'd say that it's a moot point to even discuss it any further let's just hope it's better...
You cannot blame it on the injuries, their struggles with executing basic run concepts. Yes, Eberflus will install a new scheme, but they have to become a more disciplined front or we can expect similar results.

Actually I can it's not an excuse it's a fact when you're using your 3rd and 4th stringers it's hard to run your defense it is and you're using last year's players and coaches which a lot of them are not here I think maybe you miss that fact there's no need to judge what happened last year all players need to be more disciplined no matter what scheme they're running but injuries did happen it's a lot harder to run a defense with their 3rd and 4th string defensive ends when you're missing your top linebackers when you're missing a lot of your corners that are supposed to come up and tackle they can't cover yes it messes everything up we call that being at a sink the overlap is real that's why I might know in defense look like trash sure he should have been fired no matter what but that side of the ball was decimated in 2020 also lost the quarterback you know what happened it was the book end of our bad year in 2024 it's like it was a mirror image that is why they got back on track when they brought in what Dan Quinn over Mike Nolan we're bringing in Matt over really not Zimmer but to change things from Quinn until now is even a bigger ask because it was too much of a disjointed season last year to try to install a new defense and too many injuries yeah injuries you say don't use them excuses yeah they are reasons that the real word is called true reasons it's a fact look at what happened in San Francisco they look like garbage because of what because of injuries an enormous amount of injuries not an injury here or there a ridiculous amount of injuries that happened to the Cowboys and it showed up all over the place in what really happened last year was more about injuries...

Of course some of those players who are 3rd and 4th string came off the practice squad or walking off the street or not being Mike Zimmer's first choice they look undisciplined they just don't know what they're doing these are guys who were not ready and they were forced to play a first year defense trying to make a transition from Dan Quinn and then injured all over the place and playing your backups and your backups are supposed to just be as good no they're not supposed to be as good you're going to miss a beat it's no different than your backup quarterback will never be as good as your starter unless your starter already sucked there are some examples of that around the league there isn't a big drop off because all three of your quarterbacks suck...

your facts are fantasy

or at best warped and twisted by homeritis

the cowboys have been soft at DT for a long time. This allows offenses to control the game by forcing our D to close it up; and then they gash us wide. And by being able to run the ball on us, it obviously sets up the pass.

a defense that is weak up the middle will never win the big games for you
….and after all the discussion and debate, that alone about sums it up.

Jerry doesn’t see it that way, so he collect those corners, edge rushers and receivers.

His new HC says we need to “build from the outside in,” which goes directly against every basic cliche/philosophy since the league began.

Wonder if Jerry is too sad or too bombed to actually watch what wins in late January and early February lately. Probably unqualified.

When you studied the Cowboys run defense last November, you wasted your time. Advising them to improve is something I could have done without studying them. Now you're wasting our time by telling us how you wasted your time. Advising teamwork doesn't require study.
Damn, man. A little harsh, yes? I enjoy nycowboys posts. But if I felt that way I'd just move to the next post.

Like, I rarely post in Dak threads. Not because I don't like discussing QBs. I do. I just don't like the levels people here go to when discussing the topic.

We have a lot of trolls here who angry fans end up parroting. The next thing you know the mantra of the fan base really isn't the fanbase's mantra. Just a faction of fans the media ends up exploiting for revenue.

Id bet there's probably more than teamwork in his message.

My comments on linebackers is Sanborn reminds me of Keith Brooking. Remember him? He was decent when we first got him but in following years or maybe it was right after he had quit football I remember him saying "I know where the play is going and where I should be BUT I just can't get there fast enough anymore."
Thats Sanborn to me.
Whereas I believe Murray and Liuafau are better athletes but somewhat poor at diagnosing plays.(instincts)
