Cowboys DeMarcus Lawrence talks about his upcoming suspension

On Sunday, the 24-year old addressed the suspension for the first time with the media at the team’s training camp in Oxnard, California. According to Lawrence, he made a mistake that he fully intends not to repeat.
“My disappointment is it’s on me. I messed up. I learn from my mistakes. I just have to move on and get everything right,” Lawrence explained to the press during an impromptu interview at training camp. “Really I learned my priorities. You know what you got to do. You know what you’ve got to let everybody know whatever, so…I just didn’t follow through with that. I know what to put first from now on.”

We’ve heard this same song and dance from athletes before. But Lawrence seems sincere in his regret. Whether that keeps him from participating in the actions that got him suspended in the first place is anyone’s guess.

In a veteran savvy move, Lawrence also addressed his suspension with his teammates.

Jason Garrett on Lawrence addressing the team: "It was important for him to acknowledge that. He's a good person. He's a good teammate."...

I still haven't heard exactly what happened with him. I had heard that it was just an honest mistake, but his statement sounds like he knew what he was doing. Someone fill me in because I'm not getting "mistake" out of this at all.....

It may well have been an honest mistake but really him coming out and saying it will not sway the public perception and may even cause a little more ire such as "Cowboy player says he did nothing wrong to be suspended."

I do think Lawrence will rebound from this and not trip up again.. Just has to hang with Sean Lee and stay clear from Gregory and Rolando...

It's a nice gesture on Lawrence's part but it only matters to those who believe him AND if he remains true to his word.

I really hope DeMarcus Lawrence doesn't join the ranks of those who assure us of good intentions and deeds but fail to deliver. We've seen that lately with far too many present and former Cowboy players to blindly accept it at face value. Here's hoping Lawrence finds the wherewithal to deliver exactly what he appears to be promising for the future. If so, he might do just what it takes to lift his team to bigger and better things.

He is humongous in person. I literally felt like an ant next to him. I believe he is destined for great things

I believe you. Demarcus got glowing acclaim for the physical transition he made between his first and second season. That's to his credit. He should develop into one of our best defensive players but it will probably be greatly contingent upon keeping his nose clean in the future.

At least he manned up and said he made mistake ........ instead of blaming something else.
