ok they were saying last night on espn and early this morning that the cowboys didnt get a building permit when the fixed the bubble with repair but now on espn they are saying that osah found the permits that the cowboys turned in;

and the city engineers didnt follow up with an inspection, also the nfl and college football teams are looking into the company that builds the bubble type building, because another building collapsed awhile back with snow on it.

so now nfl teams and college teams are checking the structure of the buildings etc to see what caused the accident

so sounds like some city engineers are in trouble and the company that makes the bubble buildings

Continuing coverage of the indoor facility collapse

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Here are the stories in today's paper:

*City officials didn't inspect the facility's roof after the Cowboys had it replaced last year.

*Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis "isn't out of the woods yet," father-in-law Dan Reeves said, but his surgeon said the prognosis is excellent and believes DeCamillis will be ready for training camp.

*Metro columnist Jacquielynn Floyd writes that finding out why the building collapsed is more important than assigning blame.

We'll continue covering the aftermath of this catastrophe, but this here blog will get back to focusing on football this afternoon.

That is simply great news.

Under Section 408.001 of the Texas workers’ compensation laws, an employer can be sued only if the employee dies and if the accident arose from gross negligence of intentional conduct. So, basically, the injured employees cannot sue the Cowboys.

I don't see any of the employees wanting to sue Jerry over this. He will be plenty generous towards the family without the threat of legal action. I have no doubt that Jerry will see to it personally that they will be well taken care of.

How are they supposed to sue them when they're dead?
I assume their estate or family would.

I believe it's that way in several states. Injured workers get workers' compensation.

I have a good friend who was paralyzed in a work accident. He was able to get workers comp, which basically just replaced his salary.

It's a good enough reason for anybody to go out and buy disability insurance. It's relatively cheap, and I think anybody can get $3K a month coverage no matter how much they make.

Thanks for the update cowboyjoe, although its a shame that, instead of reaching out to the victims of this horrible event, Jerry has to worry about possible lawsuits.

This is a specialty type building. The city engineers could have sent representatives to inspect the building after the new covering was installed and still missed something wrong with the installation if indeed there was anything wrong with it. City engineers have quite a bit of knowledge, but they may not know every thing about this particular building type since it is not very common. How many bubble buildings are built in Irving? I am not saying the city engineers and the city itself is off the hook. Just that inspections by the engineers who designed the building are much more critical in these situations.

ESPN's ticker made it seem like the Cowboys didn't inspect the roof, but thanks for the clarification.

I thought that's what I saw too. They are claiming the cowboys did not inspect the facility even though city code requires it.

Here's the video for this thread:

So Jerry and Wade did not get up there on the roof and inspect it? Pretty sure the Cowboys are no way at fault here.

There was an article published today that said the Cowboys failed to notify the city that the work was completed. It seems they put in the correct permits but never had the city come inspect the roof after it was complete which is supposedly their responsibility. I don't think this is that huge of a deal but certainly is something to keep an eye on. I doubt we all the true facts at this time.
