In Dallas, the offseason entailed a radical overhaul of the defense. Out went the 3-4. In came not just the 4-3, but the specialized Tampa Two version of it.
In January, Bryan Broaddus of DallasCowboys.com explained how Monte Kiffin’s defense works with clips from Kiffin’s defensive performances in Tampa.
So when the Tampa Two made its Dallas debut in Week One, there wasn’t much Tampa Two to be seen.

I thought that the CB's played alot of man coverage, It's that Seattle's version of the Tampa 2?

My guess is that we don't really have the corners for it. I think the plan was to man up with their receivers, and for the majority of the game, that worked well.

When the linebackers weren't dropping into coverage, the middle of the field was exposed, and our cornerbacks didn't have good coverage on the inside routes.

When Kiffin first came here he told the players to watch a lot of Seattle game tape and that our defense would be modeled a lot like theirs.

Claiborne alluded to the misconception that it would be all zone coverage in a previous interview.

I specifically tried re watching the game to see exactly how our defense played.

Stupid game rewind was glitching ONLY on the cowboys film.

It is clear Carr was in zone when he picked off Eli

That's all I really can tell without re watching.

I would guess that Allen was in zone for his INT too. His positioning sure seemed like it

this defense is a work in progress as we all know...IMO, it is fortunate that the first 4 games of the season are not Super Bowl contending teams at the moment (not that any of them are bad)...this 4-game stretch should give the team their experience in this scheme and let us see what the coaches can do with the talent that they have

I must say, I CAN'T WAIT until I hear other teams use Dallas as the model of what they are trying to emulate...we have to get to that point and the Giants game is no indication....but, I am patient as long as the team is successful

We need Spencer back.

Maybe I need to say it again.....we need Spencer back. Listen, I'm not a fan of his and don't care if he walks, but for this season we need him cause all we have are a bunch of JAGs at his position otherwise. Hopefully he plays today and can make a difference.

This D will be fine with a hybrid of the Tampa 2 on the backend, and while I hate that Mo has to depend on Allen, I hate that we don't have another prime time rusher opposite Ware more....we need Spencer.

Yup Spencer will be a huge help. Today he will be limited to some passing downs I think.

Overall I really think this defense will clean up the passing woes. I expect a very good defensive performance today, not so much with turnovers but not giving up many points. I'd be surprised if KC puts up more than 16 on offense. So as long as we don't give them points with our special trams or offense we should emerge victorious.

We don't have the corners for it? What the heck?

Corners are not scheme specific, either they are good, or they aren't.

Carr's pick six was just a great play on his part, knowing we were showing blitz, seeing Eli change the play, and anticipating the screen pass. With safety help a good 20 yards deep, Carr was flat-footed and staring into the backfield with Randle already a step past him before Eli even went into his throwing motion. If Carr guesses wrong there, it's at least a 15-yard gain and maybe a TD.

What!?!?! We don't run the same coverage every single play? Amazing.

Said this all offseason.
