Cowboys | Doug Free receives highest tender

Now, if a top 15 team signs him I can get Tyron Smith and Patrick Peterson.

I kid.

he is NOT a top 5 LT. Maybe top 10.

In all likelihood he's a better LT than anybody coming out in the draft which is why he got the high tender. However I could see a team that needed a LT badly thinking it would be worth a middle to late round pick for him. Say, Indianapolis. Of course Dallas would likely match any offer they gave him.

Nobody is going to pay a 1st and a 3rd for Free.

But the prospect of having the ammo to make the moves to get Peterson, Smith, and Carimi, with room leftover to draft Wisniewski is certainly enticing.

You said it but I'm not.......:D

If you are fortunate to find a young, high character left tackle you don't let him walk without getting serious compensation.

They did the right thing. He's the best OL on the team and has a great deal of upside. In his first full yr as a starter he graded out extremely well when compared to other tackles around the NFL.

He's also flexible, we know he can play both RT and LT very well.

It would be painfully stupid to take an already weak OL and allow the only good YOUNG OL leave. You dont improve your team that way.

Our best OL? Did you see the rest play last year?

For a 1st and 3rd, I can find a replacement. Especially if that 1st is in the top 20.

Free is not "top 5", if he was he would have been franchised.

Maybe you can, but the Cowboys have shown no ability to do that. They could spend every draft pick on the offensive line and possibly hit on none of them.

What a dumb statement.

First off, ths OL is mediocre. Free is the only OL that is young, plays well and has upside. You dont make a mediocre unit better by letting him go and hoping to draft his replacement. You get better by keeping him and replacing others who are poor (ie, Colombo and Davis). Otherwise nothing changes.
