With the draft coming up next week, we offer up a breakdown of players at positions of need for the Dallas Cowboys.

Ohio State wide receiver Devin Smith

Height: 6-0 3/8 Weight: 196

ESPN Insider rank: No. 7 wide receiver, No. 36 overall

Games viewed: Michigan State, Wisconsin

Scouting report: I was a little surprised to see he was one of the national visitors to the Cowboys before the draft because I don’t view wide receiver as a priority in the draft and Smith should be gone in the first two rounds.

He is a big-play threat from any spot on the field. He lined up outside and in the slot. To me, he was a taller version of Terry Glenn and I’m of the belief Glenn is one of the more underrated receivers during his time. He was just a great route runner.

There's so many good WRs this year, some are gonna get pushed down to 60.
That's the earliest I'd want to take Smith....and even then I'd prefer to address other positions if in the same tier.

The modern game is an air raid and that kind of speed is an element we've been missing badly. The team seeks balance so they can strike down field and spread opponents out. All for it, but I wish Devin Smith was a returner too.

When we drafted Murray, a lot of people...maybe I was one of them...were saying RB didn't need to be a draft priority. We had just spent a first on Felix Jones a couple years earlier. Turned out the team knew what it was doing.

Interesting that Dorial Green-Beckham also visited today.
