Cowboys-Eagles Preview
By TAYLOR BECHTOLD
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/cowboys-eagles-preview-013339836--nfl.html

...The Cowboys were fourth in the NFC in rushing defense at 103.1 yards per game last season and held the New York Giants to 99 on Sunday.

They also limited Eli Manning to 193 passing yards in a thrilling 27-26 victory and held standout receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to five catches for 44 yards. However, they'll be without defensive end Randy Gregory after he went down with a sprained right ankle.

Sam Bradford looks to get off to a better start after leading the Eagles to one field goal in seven first-half possessions. He turned things around by going 21 for 25 in the last two quarters.

Jordan Matthews finished with a career-high 10 catches for 102 yards, but also had a pass go through his hands for an interception that sealed the defeat...

Without Dez, I'm really interested in what the other wide outs have. This is William's big chance...and with an extended window of opportunity.

I still think if they find a way to get pressure on Bradford, he will play like his first half and not his second half from last week game.
We didn't have Hardy or Gregory last year at this point and we didn't have Lawrence either. We survived.

We have Lawrence this year, and Mincey is still in there. No Ro, but we have Lee back. Our depth is better and secondary has depth, and I think they make some adjustments without Scandrick. and clean up some things from last week. I do not see any thing that truly changed between our D vs. their O from last year. Does not mean the same result as in that 2nd game, but I am not fearful of them.
Sproles is the only one that concerns me, but he was not that huge of a factor last year as I recall. But he can be. But we have our guy that they need to be concerend with, as shown last week in Dunbar.

...Weapon: RB Darren Sproles

In a team full of outstanding offensive weapons, the one that should make these defensive coaches the most nervous to deal with is Darren Sproles. Chip Kelly's scheme was designed with a back like Sproles in mind.

Whether it's spreading a defense out and running the ball against a light box or getting the ball to the outside on a screen or wheel route, Sproles is the perfect fit. He puts so much pressure on a defense because of his ability to be at full speed as soon as the ball is in his hands. His acceleration is rare and as a defense if you fail to get bodies on him quickly, he is likely to punish you with a big play.

He plays with body control and balance – you have to knock him off his feet to get him on the ground. Sproles doesn't get nearly enough credit for the strength that he shows on his runs -- he is a finisher.

He plays with impressive upper and lower body power for a player that is not that tall. His compact build makes it difficult to get a really good shot on him. He just is a dynamic player on so many different levels...

Sproles is the guy I worry about most on the Offense.

But...Darren Sproles, meet JJ Wilcox....ask Odell, if he can remember....

...Philadelphia Eagles 24
Altanta Falcons 26

Next: Dallas Cowboys

  • A lot of fans have been anticipating the matchup of the Dallas Cowboys against DeMarco Murray. That does not include the former Dallas running back. For him it is simply business going against the team that declined to retain his services. He has other things to worry about, like gaining nine yards on eight carries against the Falcons during his Eagles debut. It was a slow night despite his two scores.
"This is just another opponent. I'm not looking at the guys or the coaches. This is another opponent that we're facing. It's a huge challenge. I'm excited for the opportunity to go out there and play in front of our fans."

  • The other off season Chip Kelly acquisition, Sam Bradford, also saw a slow start in his debut with Philadelphia. Bradford had issues dealing with the Falcons pass rush in the first half and he resembled the same passer who struggled in St. Louis. Things changed in the second half and the Falcons failed to keep Bradford under duress. Then he looked like he was throwing the ball in practice. It seems that if teams can get in Bradford's face it will be a long year for the smoothie king.
  • On defense, the Eagles were looking to make over a unit that struggled last year, especially in the secondary. The results from the first game showed there's plenty of work still to be done. The Falcons offense thrived in that game.
[The Eagles] allowed Julio Jones and Roddy White to combine for 13 catches, 225 yards and two touchdowns. They allowed six plays of 20 yards or more, including an inexcusable 20-yard run by Tevin Coleman on third-and-15 from the Falcons' 7-yard-line late in the third quarter that turned an opportunity for excellent field possession into a new set of downs on a drive that ultimately resulted in a pivotal field goal. They took an entire half to adjust to the Falcons' two tight end offense that often left six or seven blockers smothering a three- or four-man pass rush, thus enabling Matt Ryan to stand tall and wait for Jones and White to work free.

We need Coleman to play more. He's more disruptive than Hayden and no QB likes pressure in their face.

Every chance we get we need to rotate DL to keep them fresh. Better yet extend long drives that end in scoring TDs to keep D fresh (easier said than done).

I do think they upgraded from Foles to Bradford but no sure about RB.

I think the Cowboys' record last year of what they are capable of in away games speaks for itself. There's really an excellent likelihood that their focus will be significantly more intense than it was at home in game one. Of course, there's no guarantee it'll produce a "W" when the results are in. The trend is substantially assuring, however. ;)

Brandon Graham on Cowboys O-line: "We need to disrupt them" - Les Bowen, Philly.com
Bowen explains the issues the Eagles face with the Cowboys O-line, and Graham explains what the Eagles plan to do about it.

Romo is capable of carving up a secondary as well as or better than Matt Ryan did Monday night. The Eagles' pass rush seldom hindered Ryan, as he mixed in quick throws with longer deep crossing patterns.

Outside linebacker Brandon Graham - already two behind his stated goal of getting two sacks a game - said "it's tough to get home" when the other team is max-protecting the way the Falcons did.

"I don't think they will," Graham said, when asked if he expects to see max protection from the Cowboys. "They might chip a little on the outside, but I think they trust their o-line a lot."

Dallas' offensive line is much more highly regarded than the makeshift unit that handled the Eagles so easily in Atlanta.

"Those dudes have great double-team, with some of the guys inside," Graham said. "I think we need to disrupt 'em by coming off the ball and putting our hands on 'em."

...Dallas Cowboys

Targets: Jason Witten and Lance Dunbar (9), Terrance Williams 8, Dez Bryant 7, Cole Beasley 6, Joseph Randle 3, Gavin Escobar 2, Darren McFadden 1

RB Touches: Joseph Randle (16 att., 3 catches) 19, Lance Dunbar (9 catches), Darren McFadden (6 att., 1 catch) 7

Redzone Targets: Dez Bryant and Jason Witten (3), Cole Beasley, Lance Dunbar, and Terrance Williams (2), Gavin Escobar 1

Redzone Carries: Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden (1)

CBs Thrown At: Tyler Patmon 7 (3-32), Brandon Carr 6 (3-13), Morris Claiborne 5 (3-33)

Analysis: Obviously Dez Bryant’s foot injury is a massive blow for Dallas’ offense to absorb for the next 6-8 weeks and possibly longer. Dallas loves to slow down the offensive pace in games and really grind the clock; the Cowboys had the slowest offensive pace in 2014 and were the third slowest team in terms of seconds/play Week 1.

They are going to be hard-pressed to grind clock without Dez Bryant’s drive-sustaining ability. I’m interested to see how the Cowboys’ scheme in Week 2 against Philadelphia but I’m expecting Romo to throw more often which helps elevate the per-game target floor of Cole Beasley, Jason Witten, Lance Dunbar and possibly Terrance Williams...

...Terrance Williams will move into the No. 1 receiver role. Jason Witten and Cole Beasley will remain in their same roles. Devin Street, Gavin Escobar and Lance Dunbar figure to play more prominent roles with Bryant out.

"The real take is, the guy has to win one-on-one," Romo said. "That's your whole job when you're a skill position player when you get the one-on-one. Look, if you're not consistently winning one-on-one, it's going to make the game very difficult because that's where the ball needs to go and if you can't beat your guy … Dez obviously wins that matchup 99.9 percent of the time, so he makes it easy to go to him in the one-on-one situations. So we just need the other guys to step up, win their one-on-one matchups."...

1. Run the ball with success
2. Get pressure
3. Continue success of the secondary
4. Keep the chains moving
5. Get Lance Dunbar in space

http://www.rantsports.com/nfl/2015/...-must-do-to-win-in-week-2-of-2015-nfl-season/

score more points than the other team. NO one cares how you do it. No one can guess whos going to have the good day and whos going to have the bad day. You have to score more points. Believe me, when Dallas won a game of field goals, did anyone care? noooooo, because they scored more points. You have 3 ways to do it and lots of guys to make it happen because believe me, you wont care who crosses the line with the ball and scores the 6, or the 3 or the safety. The end result is still the same no matter how you change or plan or pray, score more points.

If Cole Beasly keeps fumbling, you going to keep playing him? If Lance Dunbar cant more than two yards, you going to keep playing him? Noooo. There was no game plan that Demarco gets the majoirty of the carries and Dunbar never sees the field. It happened, and no cared. Play to score the points how ever you have to do it. If that means Brice is your man, play the hot hand.

Who knows anything once that ball is kicked.

all the pressure is on the eagles to win already

and yet, if we lose while not meaningless, its only one game early in a young season.

Eagles scored 3 1st half, 21 2nd half
Cowboys scored 6 1st half, 21 2nd half
Both teams did better throwing to their backs than running.
With gregory out both teams are about the same on pass rush.
Both teams threw alot , 45 and 52 passes
both had 2 int's
TOP dallas 37 eagles 24. so this could be a advantage for dallas.
This should be a close game and hard to say who will win, could be who gets the breaks, and luck with ref calls.
