I know many of us, including myself, are still down about the season and we have every right to be but this game should be a hard reality check of how much everything can change in one season.
Almost one year ago today, the Eagles were 6-9 and preparing to face off against the red hot 13-2 Cowboys who have already wrapped up home field advantage. The game had zero playoff implications for either team..sound familiar? The game may have been a turning point for Carson Wentz.
Prior to the Cowboys game, Wentz lost 5 out of his last 6 games. Over the course of the previous 8 games, Wentz threw for only 5 touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions despite having a red hot start. He lost his left tackle and he was forced to resort to check downs and when he attempted to make a big play...it usually led to an interception due to either a bad play from his receiving core or a costly mistake from Wentz. Yes there were media members starting to whisper that maybe the Eagles were a little over aggressive trading up for a small school player. On the other side, the Cowboys looked to have landed a franchise QB and RB in the same offseason.
Fast forward a year later and Dak Prescott has just completed a similar stretch where he has thrown only 5 touchdowns compared to 9 interceptions over his last 7 games. He lost his left tackle, his running back and he has piled up his own share of mistakes as well as being the victim of poor QB play. Could Dak use this game as a springboard to build confidence going into 2016?
If anything, this game should be a reminder of how much can change in a year and why even a meaningless game may have some meaning for the players involved.
