They certainly seem to be loading up at guard but are not doing much of anything about tackle.

Not true, they just put in a claim on OT Bowie cut by Seattle but Cleveland beat us to the punch

Yeah, but that guy was a stash-for-a-year guy.

I don't think the team's as worried about backup OT as the board seems to be. We've got the same swing OT we had the last two seasons, and Weems. And Martin in a pinch. And plenty of OG options if we need to slide Martin over. I think we'd pick up a guy we thought was an obvious upgrade if he were on the street, of course, but other than that, if we're not needing someone to take snaps in camp to cover short-term injuries, we're probably good.

Four teams made waivers claim for Michael Bowie

If the Browns violated any unwritten rules by claiming Seahawks right tackle Michael Bowie on waivers as the team tried to slip him through to injured reserve, the Browns weren’t alone.

Per a league source, the Saints, Patriots, and Cowboys also made waivers claims for Bowie.

The Patriots are no surprise; they claimed Panthers sixth-round rookie running back Tyler Gaffney a week ago as Carolina tried to slide Gaffney, who tore an ACL, through to IR. New England will now carry Gaffney on the 90-man roster until the first cuts to 75, at which time he can be sent to injured reserve without exposing him to waivers.

Curtis Crabtree of KJR and the PFT weeknight graveyard shift points out that Bowie is expected to miss four-to-six months with a shoulder injury. Which means that the Browns most likely will put Bowie on injured reserve, eventually.

Bowie would have been doing nothing but sitting on the sidelines. My point was that we are not bringing in additional bodies to get through camp at tackle, but we keep adding guards. Said it before, Martin might figure as tackle depth and they want to have interior options if he is moved.

He went through procedural waivers as Seattle wanted to put him on IR. No one was claiming him for this year.

Maybe there aren't any OT's out there that is worth it at this time. Wait until 1st cut down. and if Parnell or Weems don't pick it up by then, I can see them bringing some one in.

No he isn't. He hasn't played a snap at T in practice.

He might not be practicing there (I wouldn't really have expected him to given that he's made a position change to OG for now), but they noted his position flex when they drafted him and have commented on it even very recently. He's got to be in the picture at OT, even if it's just a game day backup to the swing OT that lets them go short on OLs on game day in a pinch if they want to take advantage of that roster spot.

Well, by my roster count, we currently have six tackles on the roster and nine interior linemen (essentially three at each position), so I think it's all about numbers for the preseason games ... although I believe Weems is injured.

Dallas cut an injured guard to make room for a defensive end for numbers purposes. It will be interesting to see what position they cut from to add a guard. ... With Gardner back, it could be one of the ends we just picked up.

It's been said repeatedly that Martin can play all five positions.

And he was a tackle at Notre Dame, not a guard.

And it has been said repeatedly that he was drafted as a G
