The Cowboys can create $93-$110 million of cap space with simple restructures and some cuts. Pickens' tag won't prevent them from having money to spend. The Jones Boys will lie to you and make it seem otherwise, of course.

So here's what Dallas CAN do next season cap-wise, with Pickens franchised:

Current 2026 Cap: $36 million OVER
Use Built-In Dak, Lamb, Tyler Smith restructures: Add $93 million ($57 million space)
Cut Trevon Diggs, Malik Hooker, Terence Steele: Save $28 million ($85 million space)

Even with no other moves, the Cowboys can franchise Pickens and still be sitting on anywhere from $29 to $57 million of cap space. If they extend Quinnen Williams and tinker around with some other contracts, they can add $28 to $43 million MORE on top of this total.

Please, DO NOT believe the Jones Boys when they cry about the cap and pretend to be broke. Teams like the Eagles and Lions already proved the pie is big enough.

I love Georgie P. And I was really concerned when they traded for him- based on rumors. But I hope he is here long term. And yes, I'm sure he'll do something boneheaded occasionally, but I think he is worth it. He has an edge to him or a toughness that stands out to me. I wish we had more players like him actually.

Maybe, and this is a big one since it involves Natural Gas Man and real thought, the Boys are not sure if Pickens can behave himself good enough for a long extension. They badly want to keep him. So they tag and accept the expense to make sure that what happened this year was not just a contract year and him behaving because he wants the big payout.

Oh, I know Dallas can sign anyone and/or play on the tag. The ineptitude of this front office needs Pickens to sign an extension because they do not know how to work the cap.
