Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong section for this but figured this section gets the most exposure. Anyway, I've been thinking about flying out to Dallas to watch a game (I'm in California) and was wondering for those of you local, or those that have done it before, what do you guys recommend? I was on the cowboys website looking at their fan experience packages, but know nothing about them. Anyone know what the average cost is on these? Is it worth it? Also since I'd fly in, you guys recommend getting a rental car to drive around, or should I just use uber to go back and forth, not sure how far hotels are etc from the stadium. Sorry for all the questions, me and my wife, my brother and a friend of mine have been thinking about doing this for a while and I'm pretty set on going this year. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not sure about the fan packages, but I'd assume anything sold directly from the cowboys to be overpriced.

Definitely get a rental car, pay for the expensive parking ticket, buy a 14" weber and grill. Or, if I'm going to that game, you can come tailgate with us, but if it's your first time at Fight Club, you HAVE to fight. Everyone here is going to tell you to go to Sundance Square. I personally think it's overrated, but it's a unique experience. As far as hotels, I live here, so I have no idea. You don't have to be right near the stadium. There are cheaper ones by the airport in Irving, which is about 6 miles north. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

Oh, and you have to eat at Hard 8 BBQ.

Thanks guys, yea looking for any and all input. We'd probably fly in Saturday afternoon and leave on Monday, so we'll have some time to hit up some local attractions.

I'm flying in as well.

I am hoping for a game early in the season and I want to go to one that I feel they will win. Divisional games are not even an option, not spending all that money for a let down.

I'm thinking the Rams or Chargers are probably the best bet...I'm hoping we play one of them the first month of the season.

I'm from and live in Wisconsin . I have gone to 6 games. 4 at the new stadium
The tour of the stadium is a MUST! Make sure they are doing tours the day you plan on going. Sometimes they have something going on when they don't do tours. I was able to play football and kick field goals on the field for as long as I wanted. It was an absolute dream come true.
I would recommend a rental car so you can travel the back roads of Texas. My wife and I went from Dallas, to Houston to Galveston to Corpus Christi to San Antonio to Austin. We took a bunch of back roads and it was incredible. I ate the best breakfast EVER in Galveston at a place called Shykatz. San Antonio is the greatest city I have ever visited. The river walk is incredible.
I stayed at a really nice hotel called the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. If you can afford it stay at the Gaylord that place is absolutely insane and if you go close to Christmas they have a really cool Christmas light thing. Plus it's where the Cowboys stay (I think).

The thing that stood out the most to me is how friendly Texans are. I was really shocked at how nice everyone was. It really made me want to move to Texas.

Do you know if they have tours still once the season starts? Looking at the dates now and it only goes through the end of May.

I'm more of an Uptown Dallas guy vs Fort Worth. Depends on what you like. But I would stay in either city, not Arlington

Do go and take the tour. I went to the Tampa game last year during the Texas State HS Football Playoffs and was unable to take a full tour because I didn't use my head. I was able to check out the stadium because we were interested in possibly buying Season Tickets but it's not the same. Definitely take a few minutes to make sure you go on a week where they are doing tours.

I stayed near the AP, rented a car and drove. Again, pay the extra for the parking, trust me on this.

If you are going to enjoy a nice supper and you feel like spending a little money for a real quality steak, I recommend you hit up Bob's Steak and Chop house, down on Lemon. That's the original Bob's location, Expensive but worth every penny.

If you have some time to spend and want to go eat some decent BBQ, I like Lockharts down in the Arts District.

Where ever you end up staying, you will have a good time.

Enjoy it!

Yep - stadium tour is a MUST!

And bring a football so you can catch some TD's. It's an awesome moment to stand out there, look around and imagine what it must be like.

I stayed at a hyatt place about 1 mile from the stadium and walked to and from the stadium. Six flags is right across the street and Humperdinks is a pretty good restaurant. If you plan to leave the area I would get a rental, I hit the stockyards and downtown Ft Worth when I was there.

Problem being with Stockyards is the time of arrival and departure into DFW.

If landing on Saturday afternoon the time to get to Stockyards for the Cattle Drive is hard.
Cattle Drive time is 11AM and 4PM daily.

At Stockyards there are a lot of bars up the hill and music at night.

So Sunday game day unless time of game is 3pm start then No Stockyards that day.
And Monday if flying out about 1pm Then you are stuck there also.
At mid day it would only take about 30 minutes to get from Stockyards to the airport.

You can google Stockyards to get more information.

Stadium tours should be a go on Monday morning.

Definitely worth doing a stadium tour the week of. Either VIP or the self guided tour, though the VIP I think you should do once (its $22 per person or so, self guided is maybe $15, so not super expensive). At the end you'll get a chance to go on the field and throw a ball around, or do some activities if there's a 'Rally Days' event going on, usually the Saturday before big games. 100% recommend this for Cowboys fans.

As for driving, the three times I've been, I've always rented a car for cheap through Alamo. However, the driving scares the **** out of me in Dallas sometimes, especially when the GPS has you entering and exiting highways within a couple hundred yards with super fast drivers all around haha. I'm from Vancouver, Canada, where they drive way slower, so maybe you'd be used to it from California. I met some people on my last visit (OT win vs Eagles), and they Uber'd it everywhere and it worked for them.

For Hotels, a couple times I've stayed in the Downtown core (Sheraton, and then Aloft this last time), but it's a business district, so don't expect too much going on at night. You have to go to the Uptown (?) area to find bars that college kids go to. But I still recommend staying in a hotel in the Dallas area, there are some nice ones there and it's central to the Airport and Stadium (each one is like a 30 min drive from each other).

I didn't get a chance to see the new 'Star' facility when I last came, it wasn't ready for visitors at that point, I'd probably recommend checking that out too. And there's a science museum in the downtown core that I really liked. There's an area where you can race against a T-Rex or NFL athlete on a screen, and it has other cool stuff. If you're into that. And of course go to a high end steakhouse, definitely worth it. Some of the best steak ever I've had down in Dallas.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best advice i can give you is find urself a hotel beforehand. So ur not struggling like my last visit to dallas. I was only stayin two nights and hotels were crazy expensive. Unless $ isnt an issue then ull be okay. I ended up finding a real cheap place. Its about a 4-5 mile drive from stadium. Forgot the name of the place. But ended up paying like 40$ a night. other places wanted 150+

The price of a parking pass may seem exorbitant but you can expect to pay around $ 150-200.00 for a cab ride and that after standing in line for an hr for the privilege.
Get the parking pass!

I usually stay out in the Addison/Carrollton area when I visit Dallas, absolutely love it there, sooooo many places to eat in Addsion. I've yet to catch a game but I think this is the year to make a special trip down.
