Cowboys Get Alarming Draft Label From Mel Kiper

This is a non story. If anything the worry should be more about his agility tests at the combine, but in watching film I don’t see any of it as a huge red flag.

21 reps at 225 is massive power. The average human being isn’t getting 1 rep in. 21 reps at that weight means he likely can max out in the 350-400 lbs range.

Mel is slowly losing it, much to the disappointment of Risen Star.

For starters, just saying they should have traded down and dinging a team for that is silly when we have heard reports that the offers to move up were not good. Miami apparently tried to trade down too and had trouble finding value in doing that.

Secondly, Kiper's credibility is in the tank after his embarrassing performance for two nights whining about poor Shadeur Sanders and how the entire NFL is wrong and they don't know how to scout QBs, which is rich coming from the guy who pimped guys like Ryan Leaf, Jimmy Clausen, etc.

So if Mel says we screwed up, I gotta admit, I might feel even slightly better about how we drafted.
Mel lost his everloving mind. He's pulling chit from thin air. He's always been a ratings *****. Will concoct, conjure up hot trash as if he's done due diligence. He hasn't. This is why bspn keeps him. He plays by their rules. A faux sports outlet based on enuendo, and feelings, NOT FACTS. They aren't concerned with truth. Mel will be sitting in the couch soon watching the draft from his house or he will have his own podcast. Dude needs some humble pie. Todd Mcshay was smart getting away from there. He's doing pretty well and has a vastly different take than Mel on our draft, and Sanders

The guard will be a good player it's just they had other guys with similar grades at positions of need that would have made a difference in the W column.

Booker will be a difference maker in the win column, you can book that!

Btw I’ve also seen it said that Booker’s 21 reps on the bench were pretty embarrassing for a guy who talks about making people quit.
Mel Kiper is past his time apparently. First of all, he had O. Hampton picked by Cowboys at #12 three times!!! lol talk about reaching
second of all, Booker was picked to go anywhere in the 8 to 25 range. He would of been gone at #44 and there was no dance partner willing to hit the dance floor other than Houston who obviously wanted to low ball them. Someone tell Mel it takes two to tango.
Third, if you are set on a guy, you go get him. They brought him in for a visit, they like him, and if you heard his welcome press conference - you would understand why!!

Mel is just butthurt that he was wrong in predicting the Cowboys pick. Great pick by Jerry.

Kiper is terrible. Here is part of an article about his terrible draft accuracy.

Kiper has received sustained criticism for the low accuracy of his predictions. According to Cold Hard Football Facts, Kiper's accuracy for the first round of the 2005–2008 NFL drafts was 32 of 127 total picks (25.2%), which included players that had already signed or were in the process of signing with a team before the draft.[15][16] According to The Huddle Report in 2014, based on Kiper's final mock drafts, he had accurately predicted 23% of the first round picks in the previous five years.[9] Kiper's initial drafts were even lower, correctly predicting 17 out of 256 from 2010–2018.[4] In 2021, FantasyPros ranked Kiper's final mock draft 87th of 182 and Grading the Experts ranked his draft 32nd of 38.[17] In 2023, Kiper correctly predicted only one of the 31 draftees in the first round despite updating his analysis on the morning of the NFL draft after gathering additional information.

Kiper hits on some and misses on some. Get ready for the annual spew out of the Cowboys organization about how this is the year. Buy those tickets and merchandise! Some will never learn. This team is doomed for the foreseeable future. Take the under if it’s at 8 or lower. Easy money.

Travis Frederick did 21 bench reps at the combine.
- He has 33" arms.
- He had dominant power in the NFL...

Tyler Booker did 21 bench reps at the combine.
- He has 34-1/2" arms.
I admittedly was upset the Cowboys drafted Tyler Booker so early (12th overall), especially on an interior Olineman who only bench pressed 21 reps, timed the slowest in the 40, plus has slow burst and slow lateral agility. What is making me slowly change my anger is like you said, Travis Frederick only benched 21 reps during his Combine outing while he turned out to be a very good blocker. With the Cowboys new Oline coaches (one was Cooper Beebe's college Oline coach), I feel Tyler Booker and our Oline can be improved, especially when it comes to their strength, foot quickness and agility. So, I'm reducing my doubts and building trust Tyler Booker, Guyton and the rest of the Oline will get better.

Zack Martin was great.

It's just that guards matter very little. Zack Martin's career is proof of that.
Yeah, guards matter very little. The only thing they do is block the interior defensive linemen who have the shortest route to the QB. Well, they also have to keep the pocket clean so the QB can step up into his passes. On top of those things, they have to open up running lanes for the RB to run through. Additionally, they often have to pull to get out in front of a sweep or swing pass/screen. Then, of course, they must be able to read the defense and adjust their blocking accordingly to account for a blitz or stunts. But other than those things, I mean, yeah, guards matter very little to the success of the offense.

I saw somebody post this on Facebook and thought it was hilarious. I don’t know why anybody listens to Kiper anymore. He’s become the NFL version of Mariah Carey. You hear in December 100 times a day that song “all I want for Christmas is you “and then they roll her back into the home. Time to put Kiper up in the retirement home and not let him out anymore.

Kiper rates prospects, doesn’t build teams.

When he forgets that he gets defensive and claims the whole world is wrong. No, Mel, it’s not a matter of right or wrong most of the time it’s a matter of different priorities and needs in a world of finite resources.

What did Martins HOF career bring us?
