Yeah the bench press, and in particular 225 for reps, isn't the end all be all of strength. It's as much muscular endurance as it is one rep strength. On top of that how much does he squat, does he get low and get good leverage, how is is hand and footwork etc. 21 reps isn't impressive in comparison, but it's not alarming either.

second of all, Booker was picked to go anywhere in the 8 to 25 range. He would of been gone at #44 and there was no dance partner willing to hit the dance floor other than Houston who obviously wanted to low ball them. Someone tell Mel it takes two to tango.
Third, if you are set on a guy, you go get him. They brought him in for a visit, they like him, and if you heard his welcome press conference - you would understand why!!

Mel is just butthurt that he was wrong in predicting the Cowboys pick. Great pick by Jerry.

I'm still mad we got Zach Martin instead of Johnny Football.

You don't pass on a franchise qb for an interior Olineman.

Where's the value?

Not surprised Way back when Kiper was the kid in his basement doing this and espn took notice he was wrong more than he was right but he’s not by himself all of them guys that do those mock drafts are wrong more than they are right, hence why they put out more than one mock draft and the one the hit on or closes on is the one that they will harp on as well as the media trying to make them out to be experts, smarter than anyone else . I agree with what Jim Mora said way back when he and Kiper had a back and forth, but I say it about all of them.

A lot of Wins that would have otherwise been losses without him. But, if you're alluding to a Super Bowl victory, numerous HOF members never won a Super Bowl. But more to the point, I responded to your comment that guards matter very little, not Martin's HOF career.
 
lets no overact. Sure, Kiper is wrong often. Like everyone in the draft. But every year it is the same thing, get defensive when someone doesn't like your teams picks only to see them underperform as a team every year.

I didn't like the options at 12, so I don't think there was a home run pick. Although I guarantee you if I told most of the posters that Booker was going to be the pick at 12 on Wed night, that probably 80% here would not have liked it. I have no idea if he will pan out. He better be damn good to be pick #12 as an interior lineman. The beauty is the answer should be pretty clear.
 
i don't remember him being critical of the pick during the broadcast.
he had favorable comments about booker and his fit.
in the end,who cares as long as he handles his business.
no one likes og picks in rd1 any way.
until they pan out.
then everybody loves them.
 
Kiper is all about draft value. If you take a player at 12 that he had going in round 2, he's going to ding your grade for not trading back. I agree 12 was too high for Booker regardless of which team selected him. There were other players available who could made more of an impact.

Unfortunately, that wasn't even true. Hoffman scored out by PFF as a top half of the league starting G. He's a young guy still improving.

Compare the need to upgrade Hoffman over the need to upgrade Mazi. Or RB. Or WR2.

According to Kiper, Dallas' "stick and pick" at No. 12, rather than trade back, was viewed as a questionable move.​

Trade back and get more picks to fill more holes. Good chance you still get Booker anyway. If not, you improve *other* positions, some of those were *greater* needs.

I like Booker. But it was a reactive reach to maintain a status quo by replacing Martin with a high quality player. It wasn't maximizing value of the 12th.

They didn't get the value of the 12th by taking Booker either.

And you're going to pretend that Booker is the same quality of even *prospect* as Martin?

Nope. Just not. Not even close.

We took Martin as a blue chip prospect who fell below his consensus value. We reached on Booker, and with an *earlier* pick.

There is *some* similarity between Frederick and Booker. Both very powerful guys who got dinged on draft boards for "lack of athleticism".

But we spent twice the draft value on Booker for a less premium position and less polished prospect.

"A similar reach worked out in the past, so let's reach twice as hard this time!"

Not a smart way to build a team.

I think we did get a good player. Just not all the value to be had out of the 12th.

Slightly lesser position value, greater upgrade need, though many would have considered him a reach at 12 too.

I can see them shying away from Grant as a Mazi clone from the same school. Fool me once...

I thought Grant was the obvious play too. Now I'm less sure. Maybe just getting burned by Mazi left a mark.
