Unfortunately, that wasn't even true. Hoffman scored out by PFF as a top half of the league starting G. He's a young guy still improving.
Compare the need to upgrade Hoffman over the need to upgrade Mazi. Or RB. Or WR2.
According to Kiper, Dallas' "stick and pick" at No. 12, rather than trade back, was viewed as a questionable move.
Trade back and get more picks to fill more holes. Good chance you still get Booker anyway. If not, you improve *other* positions, some of those were *greater* needs.
I like Booker. But it was a reactive reach to maintain a status quo by replacing Martin with a high quality player. It wasn't maximizing value of the 12th.
